Nowadays everybody has a cellphone....the future of communication....but how young is too young. I work for a cellphone carrier and i have seen a somewhat disturbing trend present itself....parents buying cell phones for 5,6,7 year old children!!!! Is this too young....? what problems can or will this cause?

To me it depends on a couple of things
1) Maturity of the child They may be only 5-7 but have the maturity of a teenager.
2) The type of service that is being purchased. When I bought one for my son (10) it was for "wlakie-talkie" communications between him and my wife and I. He also has the capability to 911. This is a great tool to get the kids home on time when they "disapear with friends"
3) In today's society, unfortunately, the 5-7 age group seems to be the most attractive to pedophiles, kidnappers etc. This is an unfortunate climate that we live in today but we have to cope with it.

If it was 20 -30 years ago, I would agree with you, but times are vhanging unfortunately not for the better.

5, 6 or 7 year old children , i think is too young.

Nobody knows what effects a mobile phone cause as such yet because they havent been around for that long so no one really knows.

Mobile phones do on the other hand give out an alarmingly large amount of radiation. And long term use on a growing brain COULD boil it. Kind of like boiling an egg and it is pure protein.

children of a certain age not having mobile phones is a precautionary thing as we dont not know what long term use of mobile phones can do. All theroies are Speculation.

points taken.....but what about when these children are at school where these devices are prohibited....do you really think a 6 or 7 year old is mature or responsable enough to adhere to the schools policy? and if not who is to blame the child or the parent?

I'm 30. Never had a cellphone and never want one. Where I have worked/work, they always require that you inform them of your cellphone number in case they need you. When I am not at work I sure as hell am not going to be bothered by it. If I want to use a phone I will find a pay phone.

There is only one cool thing about owning a cellphone and that is picking up a call and responding with "Mulder'.
