"Link" - Question???

I've noticed that the (outside) link feature will frequently insert a space (5) characters in on the text entered for the text. In other words, when you enter the text you want to appear for your link, the system automatically generates / adds a space between character 5 and character 6.

Why is this?

It doesn't do it every time, but it will often do it with quote text which is several words. And, no amount of editing will remove it. It doesn't appear that way in the edit box, but when it is posted the space shows up.

What gives?
