VR Chat Part 3

Hello everyone, welcome back to my series on Virtual reality...

Part I

Part II

This time around I've come to a conclusion that I just needed to jump in head first... So after a few months of mulling over my options, I found the system that I wanted. IF anyone knows about benchmarking your PC... www.userbenchmark.com...

I've taken the leap from Yacht to UFO with my new gaming rig... needless to say there isn't a VR game I can't play now...

My last step will be finding the perfect headset for my VR time... but that will be for the next part

For now im stuck with the Acer windows mixed reality set... its comfortable, and the resolution is fantastic... though the sweet spot in the lenses is small and hard to get just right... the placement of the headphone plug in just sucks! The controllers are ok but I imagine there is much better. Though its decently easy to set up... and the inside out tracking is not great, but I believe it is the way VR will be eventually... Rift S already uses it, and I know theres a stack of other companies that are also going to be switching from the light houses to inside out tracking as well.

Anyways... on to the subject at hand...

I know the VR community on ATS isn't huge... but I know theres a few of us... and some play high end VR

I would like to know what games/experiences you've played that have blown your mind!!

Recommendations please....

Also, which upcoming games are you waiting to play?

I just bought "Budget Cuts" because I've heard a lot about it, and it looks like a lot of fun!



I believe I will be getting a game called "Lone Echo" because I've basically been waiting to play that game since I started with VR... it looks incredibly fun! And part two is coming... or already out, im not sure



A Township Tale is one of the first MMOVR games... And theres a few more of them, but VRMMO is pretty new... and though the time needed in any MMO is probably more then I can actually play... I am excited to give it a go...



I also have Pavlov... which is supposed to be a fantastic shooter game... counterstrike ish…

and I can also recommend, "waltz of the wizard"... taphouse… The Lab... which are a few neat little games which are a lot of fun to play with!!

SO.. are there any titles that have made your jaw hit the floor?

OR just a game that you can spend hours playing?

And don't say Beat sabre....LMAO!!

I was part of the Crowd sourcing for Orbus VR (MMORPG) wasn't too impressed with the First version haven't had a chance to log into the 2nd version.

Dig some of the space stuff but haven't really found anything to grab Me and keep Me involved.

FYI I have an Oculus Rift set up. It does squeeze My head a little uncomfortably.

I have the same issue with the PSvr… crushes my brain, but surprisingly the Acer WMR set its very light and comfortable... it definitely has its issues like every other set (besides the oculus GO)

I was looking at orbus… the new version is a bit pricy, and theres free MMOVR games like the one mentioned above... I've only tested it once with this cpu which isn't my gaming rig anymore... and it has a lot of potential. I plan to give "A Township Tale" a run on my new system tonight... I will give an update later on

Nostos is an upcoming MMOVR title that is very Zelda like... im totally looking into it when it comes out

I replied to watch this thread, still looking for that Game that will grab Me. It'll come along, Probably something in space.

What 3 VR games are actually fun enough to invest 100s of hours into?

Well lets see...

Superhot would be at the top of my list... though once you've beaten it, the luster fades...

I haven't gotten into the high end titles yet so... i'll let ya know if I find one

PokerVR… I've spent hundreds of hours playing that... but IF you don't enjoy poker.... well at least the social aspect can be pretty fun...

And then for me it really comes down to what you like... im not a fan of shooting games, but i'll jump in on occasion... i'll have to see what Pavlov is about one night...

Escape room style games can hold my attention for hours... but hundreds of hours...

That's pretty tough to find so far...

Adding to that... again, each person has to find what they like in VR

I have SkyrimVR… and I've heard of lots of people spending their life in that game... essentially WoW in VR... but I can't do that kind of gaming anymore as I once did... or at least I just refuse to

Elite Dangerous is considered by some to be the best VR game ever made, and I am a huge fan of space... but learning to master the controls in that game apparently takes a while, which prevents me from grabbing it, though you can go to steam and find people with literally tens of thousands of hours logged

And there are tons of people that have thousands of hours logged on so many games... So it really comes down to how much you enjoy VR... and what you want to do in it

yeah you can walk in SkyrimVR… its fast though, but im pretty sure theres a button somewhere to make you walk instead of sprint... I know it was making me dizzy when I played it

teleporting can be alright but yeah it depends on the game...

Im kinda pumped to play A township tale... forging weapons in VR sounds like a lot of fun

but I just found "The lone echo experience" on the GO... a trailer for the game that made me want to get VR...

so I gotta check this out

Regular $40... and with the expansions its $23... regular $70

I am just upset.. Nothing I see in Australia is catered towards real VR, so I have to go whole hog (and thusly unaffordable) with things that are... well, they're all over the place. I cannot work out, for the life of me, what to get.

I don't want 6D.. I won't be walking anywhere, this house is made for blind people to die in, so there's that. So 3D is fine.. as long as I can move my head, and use my hands. Sounds like having sex, but even then I am left with just one hand these days.

But I also want AR.. I want to see my place, and control my things, interacting with it in such a way. The microsoft gear seems ok for that, but not VR..

I did see a youtube video recently that had the best of both worlds.. and it was merely glasses. Wired, but still just glasses. you could interact with your real environment enacting changes in the VR world, OR go fully immersive with with VR content.. I don't know how it worked, it was at an expo, and not available yet for consumers... and the price was .. lets just say, I don't have enough organs...

But I started off, decades ago, as a small child.. 3D things, red and blue... the idea was so fascinating. I could do stereographs when no one else could. just go cross eyed.. then the fad took off, and everyone did those infuriating reverse cross eyes Magic Eye things.. I HATE them with a passion, for ruining my efforts for so long. I can't get them, you don't go cross eyed, you stare through it.. and those who do get it, can't get stereographs.. And when there is no explanation as to which thing your looking at is, you get confused, bewildered and perturbed. Philistines.

And then, the very first VR came out, early 90's... there was a place near me that had it, it ran on an Amiga and you looked at a block world that made minecraft look like a magnificent portrait.. (If you've seen some shader packs and realistic packs, VR Minecraft is HOLY SH~T AMAZING !!!)

But alas, it was hosted only, but I knew one day it would appear as such that I could buy one.. I mean, it was only a few years earlier I was plying the local space invaders machine with coins, and now I was playing it for free on my compruter.

And time slipped by.. dragged and flew.. flew and dragged... and then on Ali Express, I noticed these goggles you wear that show your desktop as a 60" screen. But at 320x200.. :/ I was seriously getting a hard on with my brain till I saw that..

Then, I heard about the oculus rift, but the price tore me down..

Then google cardboard... Ahha !! Perfect, surely.. My phone does 1920x1080, it's a Samsung afterall !! I'm in...

"Oh... this is pants.." I remember thinking.

"Time to upgrade my PC. This has gone on long enough!"

So upgrade I did... not a lot, being a broke ass peon.. but everything says VR Capable.

So I looked.. and looked and looked.. and ... well, we can start reading from the top of this post now..

sounds like you could use an Oculus GO... its 3dof, and still the best VR system I have...

Its affordable, and there are ways to make it 6dof, and use two hands...

And If you upgraded your cpu recently, look online for a Microsoft mixed reality set... people are ditching them for newer products these days so they can be found really cheap... even cheaper then the Go, and the required specs are really low compared to the other headsets for VR

I got mine for $175... regular $400, and even at low specs it works really good....

This cpu only has a gtx1050 ti 2g vram… and while I can't play bigger games, theres still tons of content that this cpu can breeze through no problem

There are a few games I keep coming back to with my HTC Vive (but pretty sure they are available for the other systems that use the hand controllers too, like the Oculus Rift and even newer Steam Index. A short summary :-

Arizona Sunshine.... Zombie apocalypse, lots of running about shooting, reloading and shooting again.

The Forest... A Panicky game when the night falls with the cannibals wanting their share of your flesh, whilst you build safe havens and advance the story line of exploring and rescuing the kid.

Subnautica... The first game that genuinely made my jaw drop. A proper underwater experience, again building safe havens under water, exploring and eventually escaping the planet. This one is a real impression giving for people who haven't experienced VR.

Elite Dangerous .. A genuine spaceship simulator, can be very samey, samey, grindy grindy. But with a full HOTAS set up, great fun.

War Thunder... A freebie game flying about in WW2 aeroplanes shooting other players down etc.

Eye In The Sky... A two player game, one on the HMD and the other on the PC at the same time, solving puzzles. With this one you don't have to be a full time gamer to enjoy, and more importantly its not as anti social as the the other ines listed.

There's plenty of videos on youtube showing people playing these games.

GTX 1080Ti

I have subnautica… just an amazing game, and I haven't even tried it on the new system... I play it in ALVR and it works flawlessly... and I agree that one is a jaw dropper!!

WMR works with steam and oculus... just needs a side program to let either run, so im covered with that...

ii just can't get into zombie shooters... but I was looking into "the forest"... seems interesting

Now eye in the sky.... that sounds like a game I have on the GO... Covert

One person is the spy and sneaks into a museum, the other is the hacker on a phone or laptop... that is a lot of fun, so i'll have to add "eye in the sky" to my list

That GTX 1080ti is a beast of a card... is that the 8g or the 11g?

It's the 11gb. The CPU 4.71ghz 8 core, mobo, ram and psu cost me about £250ish. The HTC Vive cost £250 (Bargain of the year). I drove for 4 hours each way to pick it up, thats a long way in England. Not entirely sure where the guy had it from, but didn't ask too many questions at the time. And because I'd saved all the money buying second hand kit, I spent £600 on the second hand 1080ti. I met a bloke in a dodgy part of Manchester for that, i was lucky not to get mugged off for the money to be honest. Luckily it all worked out for me. The 1080ti is, apparently the best bang for buck out there at the moment. VR can be an expensive hobby, but if you do the research and keep your eyes peeled you can pick up the bargains. damn nice rig!!

I wanted portable so I had to pay for it... but she does what I need done, and I so needed it done! LOL

I have the ROG strix Scar II
Intel Core i7-8750H 6 core
16GB RAM upgrades to 32g, or 64 im not sure
RTX 2070 8g Vram also upgradable

Crushes any game on the market for now... beats last gens 1080, but not the TI... that card inches mine out but just barely... Plus it supports ray tracing, which is starting to become huge... unfortunately no games have ray tracing yet so at least im set up for the coming generation of games... and its overclockable, but im not going to mess with that because it does what its supposed to do already

Would have been a touch more powerful IF I got this setup in a desktop, but again, I wanted portable... and this thing is light as a feather... with the power of a desktop
