Dave Mustaine diagnosed with throat cancer

Dave has posted the news on hs website , megadeth.com , most of the 2019 tour dates have had to be canceled but the band continue to work in the studio on their new album , the prognosis for recovery is good.

I’ve been diagnosed with throat cancer. It’s clearly something to be respected and faced head on – but I’ve faced obstacles before. I’m working closely with my doctors, and we’ve mapped out a treatment plan which they feel has a 90% success rate. Treatment has already begun.

Unfortunately, this requires that we cancel most shows this year. The 2019 Megacruise will happen, and the band will be a part of it in some form. All up to date information will be at megadeth.com as we get it. Megadeth will be back on the road ASAP.

Meanwhile, Kiko, David, Dirk and I are in the studio, working on the follow up to Dystopia – which I can’t wait for everyone to hear.

I’m so thankful for my whole team – family, doctors, band members, trainers, and more.

I’ll keep everyone posted.

One of the 4 faces on the Mount Rushmore of Metal. Essentially, the progenitor of American Thrash. Dave was instrumental in shaping the sound of metal. All my opinion.
I have no doubt he can beat this.
He has always been a survivor.

Throat cancer isn't quite the beast it used to be. The treatment isn't fun though. My aunt made it through hers. If they caught in good time, he should have a good chance of making it through.

He'll need to stay tough though. The radiation in that area just is the pits if what my aunt said is true.

I'm thinking this wasn't as recent a speculation as it seems.

It's amazing more musicians from the 80s haven't had to deal with this, as damn near all of them either smoked or played in closed air venues with smokers, pyrotechnics, and God knows what else.

Like previous poster suggested, theres also HPV.
Can't remember where I heard this but apparently oral sex, specifically cunninglingus(sp?) can cause throat cancer because of HPV or human papillomavirus.
I'm sure our man Dave has indulged from time to time.
Good luck to him,, let's hope his unique vocal style is left intact.

I was saddened to hear this news. I love Dave and wish him all the best. Hope he heals quickly.

Michael Douglas blamed hpv for his throat and neck cancer. It's definitely a possibility.
