My favorite Dire Straights number is Brothers in Arms,but I have to ration that,as its one of the few songs that makes me cry.
What a band,to be able to make you feel totally rocked out uplifted or desperately sad.

That drumming should show everyone that the singer does not lead the band!!

I love the Tele Strat combo! I think (IIRC), MK did not use a real strat or even plug into an amp; he went guitar into a mic tube pre-amp then into the board. And his brother David is the real hero on that song as he did all the rhythm without a pick!

We did this as our sound check song... me singing (and why we didn’t do it live!). My secret was to palm the pick during the verses and pick during fills and solos. Oh, and a good clean amp which my Peavy Classic provided!

Good rock and roll comes from the drums and bass. Singers and guitar players are free to roam but rarely can as they are usually at the limits of my ability (hehe!). Which is why there are one hit wonders.

Then there are masters of words and music like Mark Knopfler who can do this and school us all!

Made me check to see if Brothers in Arms still has the same effect.
Oh yes,cried like a kid who gets told "No More Facebook"but more emotionaly as the song takes me back to certain place and friend and time.

But this is what I needed-It never occured to me that this is the way to flush my eyes of all the evil metal dust and welding residue out of my eyes.
Natural tears beat any eyedrops!

Also the year Alien came out.

The Knoff (Mark Knopfler), broken his arm in a celebrity race, in my home town's F1 GP of 1986.

Apparently....like all rich dudes, he has a nice classic car collection.

This is an awesome song and great soloing!

Lousy band.

Why? My parents were silly enough to take me to their concert (on every street tour). As my first concert experience.... My first concert was Dire straights... Although 11 year old me was quite miffed that they played an up-tempo version of Romeo and Juliet, and it just did not work in my opinion..... But otherwise it was an experience to behold, and feel. But it god damn ruined so many other concerts I've seen since, as I knew what they could be.. Although Tool in concert was a darn good one.

But if I had to pick, Private Investigations would be a favorite song for me.

Easy riff to play. Hard to get the dynamics right though, very hard.
