About this page

Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network. This page checks to see if it's really you sending the requests, and not a robot. Why did this happen?

This page appears when Google automatically detects requests coming from your computer network which appear to be in violation of the Terms of Service. The block will expire shortly after those requests stop. In the meantime, solving the above CAPTCHA will let you continue to use our services.

This traffic may have been sent by malicious software, a browser plug-in, or a script that sends automated requests. If you share your network connection, ask your administrator for help — a different computer using the same IP address may be responsible. Learn more

Sometimes you may be asked to solve the CAPTCHA if you are using advanced terms that robots are known to use, or sending requests very quickly.

That’s ridiculous.

I’ve read that there’s been quite a few people being kicked off their social media accounts for so called White nationalist or separatist vocabulary.

Yet instagram is doing nothing about the Muslim jihadists openly praising the Notre dame fire.

Someone made a quick video showing the ones that are celebrating it.

I've had this happen before when I was researching baseball. It's nothing malicious. It just means you were searching too many things too rapidly and it is assuming you might be a robot or something.

This happens to me especially when I have the other people in my home sharing the same network and searching for several things at the same time that I am.

Are you on a network with lots of other users (i.e. at work), as the Google message says?

Are you using a VPN? The only time I have ever received that message was while using a VPN then closing the VPN connection with browser STILL OPEN, doing a search, then got the message.

Are you on a vpn? That's a common vpn error I've noticed

I am constantly getting this response from google (even when not using a VPN). It only occurs when I am searching things that may go against the common consensus. Those searches are definitely being logged . Unfortunately Google still has the best crawlers in spite of their latest changes to the system. That being said, if you want to be thorough in a search, I recommend using several search engines with the same exact search. Then multiple variations of that search on each engine.
Some engines I would recommend using in conjunction with one another to ensure you get what you want.
Duckduckgo
Google
Bing
Yandex
dogpile
wiki.com
gibiru
internet archive (wayback machine)
yahoo

It really is a shame that since about 2011 Google has been tweaking their search engine, making it worse and worse for actual search queries, and tailoring it completely to your every day user rather than maintaining functionality.

Heck I remember one day specifically when Google updated their search algorithm when I was still scouring the web for pay, and had to completely re-start my research because of that. When you are doing something like 50 different queries on each engine, and going through every single result then have to restart your search due to one of these changes it is a real pain in the behind.

Hmmm. I don't think this is necessarily as sinister as you might think. I got a similar message to that once and actually couldn't do anything on Google. I couldn't figure it out. A while later, I noticed that my system clock was off by a whole bunch of hours and then I remembered I had been switching back and forth between Windows and Linux a lot for the past couple of days. There's really no telling what that does to the data you're sending.

Anyway, really, this error message could probably be caused by just about anything. It would take an expert to know and they'd probably have to know everything you had been doing. At any rate, after I fixed my clock, Google suddenly became usable again. That may have been coincidence. I don't know.
