I checked existing threads and this pic wouldn’t fit on any of the existing photobomb threads . Because it’s not a bus, it’s not a groom, it’s not the creator, it’s not a bird, it’s not a plane.

It’s a bomb. Judging by the clothing and nuclear testing in the 60s. I tend to believe it’s a real picture not CGI.

Anyway it’s my favorite I just wanted to share. If anybody else wants to post a photobomb pic there’s no real topic. Post whatever you want .

Maybe, but I can picture dad rushing my sister and I together posing us perfectly . Then whipping out his Kodak Instamatic and click.

LOL Pretty awesome but I think they would be dead...including camera person. A camera that close would probably be in a protective casing. For that reason, I believe it is fake. But still very funny and realistic looking at first

Is that a movie or a test of a nuclear mortar/cannon? The camera was unmanned I assume, and the cannon itself, remote controlled from the bunker.

This isn’t exactly the way I was expecting this thread to go . Lol

BuzzFeed has a copy of the picture and it was source to awkward family photos.

www.buzzfeed.com...

To be fair I probably went through at least 300 pictures at awkward family photos and couldn’t find it. But I’m beginning to think there’s tens of thousands of pictures on that link . They’re pretty funny I recommend everyone take a gander .

I’ll tell you what. I’ll go ahead and say it must be fake and we can move on.

there are numerous real pics - depicting exactly what is in the OP image . yes - lots of people have jumped the bandwagon - and created fakes from stock images .

but in the 40s // 50s there were hundreds of nuclear warhead tests in the US

the photo-oportunities were there

I decided to look into this a little more. I ran across a possible explanation. Superior mirages can cause objects to appear bigger than they are over flat surfaces . Which would definitely screw up your depth perception .

Here's some more pics to boot .

This one was in your video but they colorized it .

very cool picture by the way .

Nice one.

Its still a bit nuts how some Scientists thought the atmosphere would combust but they detonated anyway.

I'd still rather be nowhere near.

Nuts how some Scientists thought the atmosphere would combust but they detonated regardless.

Instruments of our own demise?

Edit: multipost as iffy phone signal.

If I knew what we know now and was that close. I’d probably just want to be closer and get it over with . Lol

The 50s and early 60s were crazy. They did irreparable damage to human beings especially the military. And as far as I know they didn’t do much to help them afterwords .

I’m going from memory but I think they put a company of soldiers in trenches about a quarter-mile away from a detonation .

Totally legit, as per Stosh's video above.

There's a great documentary on nuclear testing back in the fifties, I believe, where they said that even back then they had the tech to build nuke hand grenades, and that the only reason that they didn't follow through was because they couldn't find soldiers stupid enough to throw them, lol
