I would like to know how imaginative some of you are. Because believe it or not, there are alot of people who do not possess this ability...And what I'm aiming for is to find out why some people are way more imaginative then others. Does it stem from birth, childhood, or is it something we've grown into through time.

Do you dream alot? Do you imagine about how you want your life to be and if so, are you ever able to manifest it into reality? Do you picture things in your mind that others would never even dream of thinking of?
Or so you may think...

I believe that certain abilities can be brought out through our imagination...great abilities. But I also think that sometimes our imagination can hinder us or cause us to lose grasp of reality, even if it's not in a drastic sense, yet in some cases it can be...

I remember seeing something on tv about this. Some guy said that if a child or indeed any other person is isolated, instead of looking outward to other humans, they start to look inwards to themselves and their imagination. he said that humans all start with imagination, its just how their environment is that effects it

Hey Mags,
imagination and fantasy?...are they the same, or different. We'll I'll tell you what my mind is like.
Take for instance, I can awlk around my house look at an object and use me mind to touch and feel what the object would feel like in my hands.
Even now i can use my mind to make an imaginary hand to touch the keyboard and i can feel it, but not quite.
The rug, hair, glasses, a towel, almost anything.
I read this post and walked around my house for awhile and touching objects with my mind. Thier was this magazine and i looked at it and imagined touching and flipping through it. I could feel the paper in my hands and licking my finger while i flip through. It can feel very real.
Thats one sense.
The others are more like fantasys.
See, Well Im only 20 and single. Thier are 3 important women in my life. Thier freinds. I had this vision once that i would marry a doctor. So i always though i would marry one. Iv met this girl my age who is going into med school. Iv become freinds with her, but seems a bit off.
Thier are the other 2, aswell. All 3 of them are totaly different in personalitys. They all spark interests in me.
I always imagine what it would be like to be with them all the time. Im not sure who to go for. I always imagine having kids, marriage, just life with one of them. That seems to take up much of my imagination time.
And any adive on the girl thing would be much apreciated Mags

I can honestly say I agree that imagination has much to do with "gifts" in the psychic sense. I was a very imaginitive child, and have now been told by two separate mediums that I am "gifted" and have started working on developing those gifts.

I still have an over active imagination sometimes, but, under normal circumstances, try to "block" my imagination to keep from appearing insane at work or home around friends and family.

Gotta agree. I had a wild imagination as a child, but I've begun thinking that some of it wasn't imagination. I used to imagine myself flying over my neighborhood(what kid didn't?), and sometimes I swear I could see everything from a bird's eye view. Some times I would see sillouettes moving at the edges of my vision, tell my parents, and they'd laugh it off as a wild imagination. So, perhaps we all experience certain gifts as children, but are "programmed" by our environment into thinking it's all made up in a creative mind. I was a very sheltered child growing up, and now I'm discovering these gifts that I used to pretend I had. Idunno, maybe I wasn't really pretending.

I'm very imaginative...imagination is just creativity in its pure form...creating that which you want, visualising it, then actualising it.

As you have pointed out, the danger comes when we choose to live within our heads, instead of facing the world as it is and actually attempting to mould it into something we wish it to be.

Imagination is the construction phase...the planning phase...but taking those plans off the drawing board and bringing them into life takes action.

I have a very creative imaginiation.

I dream about what my house would look like, going down to the smallest details, i.e colour of carpets and furniture etc.

I also imagine conversations with people and practice them in my head.

I normally forget what to say, but hey

I think one of the best things I imagine is what my children would look like. It's really strange, but I do it all the time.

hmmmm, very interesting boomhaur.

I'm sure everyone has a slight imagaination. Some people maybe have an overactive imaginiation and others maybe don't imagine hardly at all.

But everyone must do, in some way or another...

You really would enjoy reading Ouspensky on imagination, in 'The Fourth Way' (1957). It is a gem of a book. It is streets ahead of anything published in the 'new age' era of self-help-on-a-stick and pop psychology...

And thanks to those who shared part of their imagination with us..

I too have a vivid imagination, and always have since childhood..I was not a sheltered child, not that I feel anyway. I think it's healthy to have a deep imagination only *like we've all stated* if you don't let it get out of control. Imagination can bring on many abilities, not just psychic ones. I think as a reverse effect it could actually help certain people to cope better during certain situations. I know it has helped me on more then one occasion..

And for some of you who posted here..I think that sometimes we might *confuse* our own instincts or abilities with imagination..for instance we may feel or sense something or even visualize something that has/or will happen, but shake it off as simply our overactive imagination, and others we share those things with might also say something like " You have a wild imagination" when in reality, it is an actual real feeling or foreseeing of something to come..
The question is, how can we decipher the difference between the two? Guess over time, we might learn this through experience..

I myself have literally sat and imagined things happening to me or someone I know or even don't know, and it has actually happened-even if it was many years later or the very next day. Course I've also imagined things happening that haven't, atleast not yet..

*Masked~I'll certianly look for that book, and thank you for the mentioning*

It would be hard for me if someone, somehow turned off my imagination. From my earliest memories as a child I was fascinated with drawing and building. Being an introvert and shy as a teenager imagination played a disrupting part in my early social life. In my line of work I am being paid to be creative everyday, I enjoy what I'm doing so, I owe a lot to imagination.

Oh hell yeah. I am Very imaginative. I'd love to be an inventor just thinking things up. My imagination runs rampant. Sometimes it can be a problem. Other times it's just damn good.

Imaginative childhood too.

Oh, come on, Drunk, you can be the lead singer for one of the Flip cover bands in HK. Your special skill: pronouncing English correctly. Just kidding, of course, the Flip bands are lame.

No joke. I had a dream that I went back to HK for a "local band festival." I played heavy metal and got escorted off the stage for seditious lyrics. I prefer old heavy metal like Black Sabbath. It was a fun dream, though.
