French President Emmanuel Macron said he intends to take “strong decisions” to end the Yellow Jackets protests following violent demonstrations in the French capital Saturday.
The protests marked the eighteenth demonstration by the Yellow Jackets’ movement in Paris, timed to coincide with the end of a two-month public debate exercise launched by Macron. Protesters vandalized shops and restaurants on the Champs-Elysées as police sought to break up the protests with water canons.

Ironic and unsurprising thing about is that how Macron had to quit his short ski trip to return to Paris.

professional political agitators and foreign meddling aimed at destabilizing France and weakening Europe as a whole.
@Paul NL why would he? The people voted for him in overwhelming numbers, and gave a good majority to En Marche in the Legislature during the last election cycle, on an ambitious reform agenda aimed at making the French economy better and more competitive.
Of course there’s pushback from special interests and professional political agitators (not to mention the hostile foreign meddling) but Macron won’t give up and neither will most French people.
That’s not the way the republic works anyway; there’ll be elections again soon enough, and people can decide then whether Macron should stay or go, but until then, he’s the President. And contrary to the fake news narrative, a lot of people are behind him. You’ll see when his party is #1 again in the EP Elections in May.
