About seven years ago I was walking to the leanto where I keep a tractor and some tools and wood. I saw a huge bumble bee and was watching it, thinking "Whoa, that thing is huge". Then I heard something like a B52 bomber insect approaching, it was gigantic, it was probably the queen, twice the size of that bumble bee that impressed me so much. I turned around and walked away, the thing scared the hell out of me. It didn't set up a nest in the tin shed, it was just passing through I guess. The queen was ten times the size of the regular bumblebees around here, at least two and a half inches long and an inch and a quarter diameter plus the wings. It stopped right in front of me and hovered and looked me in the eyes, I have never seen one even close to that big.

I went and looked it up and it is a bumble bee that is not that common but they do live in some areas of the country in the woods. The article said the queen gets even bigger than that sometimes. I guess they are not aggressive, as long as you do not piss them off. I am glad they just stopped by and did not decide to build a nest.

Remember watching that movie as a kid. Freakin' hilarious.

An article I read about the bee said it doesn't sting....

If so, I'm sure Coyote Peterson would be coming out of retirement...

He crowned the executioner wasp the King of Sting. Dethroned the notorious bullet ant.

I think on the same show they also mentioned a species of chimpanzee from the Congo that measures up to 6 feet when walking erect, nests on the ground like gorillas and the locals call it the "lion killer".

Furthermore, this species is apparently verified (although it was the first time I've heard of it).
