What's the deal with the relentless hatred of this game? I downloaded it off Xbox Game Pass Saturday and frankly I think the game is fairly decent.
It's not going to challenge for GOTY, but dammit, nobody ever expected it to. I've seen whining about the lack of an immersive story... welcome to
Crackdown! The first 2 didn't have immersive storylines, either, that's not what the game is about. Your agent's progression is the story, going
from impressively athletic to superhuman ass kicker as you collect the orbs is the only storyline the game really needs. Some have complained about
the graphics... why? The game looks pretty good, I'd say the graphics are easily on par with Sunset Overdrive, which is one of this generation's
hipster darling games. Dark blacks and blues are richly dark, bright neons and glowing toxic slime are colorful and eye catching, the agent is well
rendered, the textures are there, they just aren't more detailed than they need to be for this style of game (it's definitely not less detailed that
SO) and the idea that this is a last gen game is obvious horsecrap! No way in hell the 360 could pull off this game, particularly not in it's native
4K resolution. I've also seen complaints about the style of gameplay... OK, if it's not your style, play something else. How many reviewers hate
sports games and review Madden lowly because "Ugh, it's all pass, run, punt, playcalling, practicing, and trading players... we saw this already in
1995 on the Genesis... whine, bitch, bitch, whine sigh." So why in the hell should someone who doesn't like 3D, sandbox Beat Em Ups magically think
Crackdown should be a game they love?
I'm beginning to wonder if the same brain rot that infested movie reviews last year and music reviews a couple of years ago has now found it's way
into the skulls of the idiots in the game review communities.
