I have Comcast High Speed Internet and MSN9 Premium as a browser which is a shell for IE. In the past, if I wasn't signed in to MSN my desktop shortcuts would open in IE, but if I was signed in to MSN my icons would open into MSN. This was convenient.

Now, after stupidly listening to a Comcast Customer Service Agent (they're all computer illiterates), I reset my Web Settings in the Programs section of Internet Options in the Control Panel. Now my desktop shortcuts will only open in IE. The only time I can get anything to open in MSN is from MSN. This has made my Quick Launch next to useless. I used to use it for frequently used links instead of going to Favorites which is crammed full of stuff.

In Set Programs and Defaults under Custom it lists IE and Mozilla, but not MSN. In Start Properties under customize, MSN is listed for both Internet and E-mail.

Anyone know how to get XP to recognize MSN as my default browser?

I didn't know MSN was a browser, but if you mean the page your system opens on, then it is 'Control panel' then open internet options and you will see Internet properties, General tab, there you can enter the home page you want.

What I have is MSN 9 Premium. If you have MSN as an ISP, it's a shell that uses IE. It has added features such as mail, address book, calendar, maps, Encarta, and many other features. It is also available to anyone on any ISP for a price. I like the interface better than IE and it's full of my personal mail, preferences, and favorites, so it would be worth paying for, if I could get it to work the way it used to.

So, MSN is not a browser, but a shell that for IE and I understand there are several out there. My computer used to recognize it, but now it doesn't and I hoped someone here would know.

Sounds like MSN 9 is no longer set to be the default browser. Go into settings an click "Check to see if MSN 9 is your default browser" to yes or okay or checkmark. I forget I havn't used a M$ browser in years lol

Thanks, but I have made every adjustment that I can think of and so has MSN. I even uninstalled and installed the software twice.

I appreciate your help, but perhaps someone who is familiar with the software has more information.
