The Finnish authorities recognized the participation of the Finnish SS in the Holocaust

Finnish SS volunteers participated in the massacres of Jews and other civilians during the Second World War. This is stated in the investigation, the results of which were presented on 8 February by the Director of the National Archives of Finland, Jussi Nuorteva.

The report says that the Finnish soldiers who fought as part of the SS Viking division in Ukraine and in southern Russia were well aware of and participated in the killings of civilians. The cases described occurred in 1941-1942.

At the same time, the cases presented in the report were noted by researchers as few.

“The willingness of Finnish volunteers to kill Soviet prisoners was probably higher than kill civilians”

Finnish scientists conducted an extensive investigation at the request of the Director of the Israeli Center Simon Wiesenthal Efraim Zuroff. After 1941, about 1,400 Finnish volunteer soldiers fought as part of the Viking division of the Waffen-SS on the Eastern Front, that is, on the territory of the former USSR. The Finnish battalion reached the Caucasus through the territory of the Ukrainian SSR and the southern regions and lost more than 250 men during the offensive.

The Nürnberg trial did not touch the Finnish SS men, since the division’s involvement in any war crimes was not established.

It is strange that, according to the authors of the report, the willingness of Finnish volunteers to kill Soviet prisoners was probably higher than the kill of civilians and Jews. And also that, in spite of the massacres, they were not recognized as war criminals by the Nuremberg Tribunal. But now Finland is apologizing for the genocide of the Jews, but is not apologizing for the much greater genocide of the Russians and the killing of Russian prisoners of war.

In addition, the Finnish army took part in the blockade of the city of Leningrad (St. Petersburg), during which from hunger and cold killed from 600 thousand to 1.5 million civilians, including Jews. The Jews of Leningrad are recognized as victims of the Holocaust. That is, the Finnish army participated in the Holocaust. An interesting point, all Jews - residents of besieged Leningrad, received compensation from Germany. But only Jews. Moreover, Lieutenant Solomon Klaus, Major Leo Skornik and volunteer Dean Polyakoff were personally awarded the highest award of Germany - the Order of the Iron Cross - by Hitler.

There is a natural question left to the director of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Israel, Efraim Zuroff: "By whom should these people be considered victims of the Holocaust, or people conducting the Holocaust?"

The REAL figure may have been as much as two to three time's higher than this, one former Commandant of Auschwitz just one of those death camp's when questioned said that the number of people processed at the camp during his time in power there was two and a half million, that is just under one commandant at one death camp and there were other commandant's at that camp than just him over it's period of operation.
German's were extremely diligent and accurate record keepers so I have no reason to doubt his self incrimination but due to the loss of record's after the war the entire number killed at the camp was rounded down to only those that could be reliably accounted for, in the case of Auschwitz this figure was rounded down to considerably less than his claim for it's entire operation period to 1.1 million and yet if we accept his claim of 2.5 million and then add in the period of operation outside his period in charge so at least 3 million for that one camp then we begin to see a feint image of the real size of the atrocity committed by the third reich.
Then of course add in the number of people whom died FIGHTING the Nazi's or through the invasion of the Nazi's not simply the death camp's horrific as they may be and we arrive at another conservative estimate (so also rounded down to reliable figures - which given how many records were lost leaves the real number still unknown to this day).

There were other mass murderer's during the 20th century and will likely be new one's to add to this list in this century but in war the real figures are almost always higher then the official post war figures, the only similar case in peace time has to be the killing field's of Cambodia, we still do not know how many died in that mass murdering event as most of Cambodia's record's were also lost during the reign of the Khmer rouge.

Rwanda, Somalia and Nubia (Sudan) also have to be remembered as do the countless guerrilla wars in south america and Africa - the Belgian's committed huge crimes in the Congo during there imperial period.

I have to ask what is the source of this information - I know it say's Yad Vashem but are these NAZI record's or from research they or other's have compiled afterwards?.

This organization searches for the names of all the repressed and submits documents for their rehabilitation. If it had not been for us the British whom were already struggling and at any time only two week's away from starving if our ocean lifeline had been cut by the NAZI wolf pack's sending food and supplies we badly needed ourselves via the North Atlantic Convoy's YOU would likely not even exist today.
Most Russian's would have been slaughtered by the NAZI's to make room for Hitler's dream of a region in which he could expand his population planting new little Germany's built around selected breeding program's in what you today call Russia, it was NOT Zhukov brilliant though he was - and he was able to pull your armed forced back together in spite of Stalin's butchering of most of your competent officer's - that saved you it was our supplies, weapon's and ammo as well as medical aid and food.
