Facebook's face challenge or age algorithm

Out of nowhere I started getting floods of friends that posted their first and then their most recently facebook pic. It is also called Puberty challenge, ten year challenge, or first and most recent.

Immediately, I had a bad feeling about it. Sure enough another friend shared the story above. It seems nothing on social media is what
is appears to be anymore.

Let's face it, people sure do love selfies. I happen to take horrible selfies, I guess that generation just missed me.

The article goes into many different scenarios, age algorithms is one of them. Sure you can use a filter, but that doesn't mean millions and millions of others are.

Another scenario include using faces to help solve crimes. That is the not the issue.
The issue is people are oversharing and might not know what exactly is happening with that data. They think they are playing a game, when in reality they are handing personal information over.

It is the same type of thing with all the DNA companies.
Sure they tell you that you can learn about your ancestors, but it is not well advertised that they are making databases on everyone's information.

Unfortunately I use facebook, but I refuse to get caught up and jump on facebook bandwagons and getting involved with the latest trend on social media. I use facebook to mainly keep in touch with friends or follow pages that peak my interest. to be copying everyone else on facebook and to be a popular person on facebook by following these trends is damn stupid if you ask me

If you use ANY of the big social media sites rest assured that everyone from the alphabet agencies to every major corporation in the world has access to everything you post- including every picture, post and private message. Why should you care when you knowingly sign up for it? If you didn't read the T&Cs then certainly you have read news articles all over the internet informing you of such. Do you honestly believe that what you're proposing hasn't been going on since the beginning? Even if you don't use social media our own PCs and Smartphones spy on us and distribute any and all of our information accordingly. Darn near any App you download on them requires you to give your permission for them to access EVERYTHING. And for those who don't use ANY of that? There are cameras everywhere you go- in the stores, on the sidewalks, on the traffic lights- surveillance is constant and everywhere you go. Even at home the newer televisions spy on you and I wont even get into "Smart Home" systems.

So really, what difference does it make anymore?

I haven’t used Facebook regularly for a year or more, and I haven’t posted on it in longer. First of all, I don’t have much of interest to say, secondly, Facebook data mining is so highly organized and far reaching that it seems like it would be a great tool to unlock the mysteries of mankind in the right hands. But it doesn’t seem to be in the right hands.
