Why did they do away with the old filter option? And why the deaf ears when so many have asked for it back over the years?

Common sense dictates when something is repeatedly brought back up by users, it's worth looking into re-implementing. I bet if you posted a prelim poll for a yea or nay on bringing it back, it would be heavily slanted to yea.
Can I suggest you guys do than to flesh out the desire? Just a poll for getting a better idea, it's not too much to ask to understand what the members say it needs even if you think it doesn't at first glance.
