If you want some really juicy Mars stuff, I'd say wait for the EXO or the 2020.
Curiosity just ain't what she used to be.

Yes and no, the Curiosity's wheels have more than a zig-zag pattern.
Look at the panorama from that sol which Damia has posted at the top of this page. There are tracks all over the place, old and new. That darker spot with parallel lines in it is similar to occasional spots elsewhere with fragments of tracks like that - some show zigzag tracks, others are short sections of parallel lines. Especially, look in the foreground below that dark spot where faint tracks from a previous sol show up in the gravelly soil. I think your darker spot is just a small patch of sand in the gravelly surface which happens to capture a short section of track with parallel imprints. The rest of the track is less defined in the gravel, but that bit stands out.

V shapes, straight lines, and zigzags on Curiosity's image feed is from the wheels, 99.999% of the time.
Sorry guys, they retrace steps and drive back over previous areas, VERY OFTEN.
Curiosity's wheels leave all sorts of marks.
I've seen every Mast cam image that's been released from Curiosity.
There are stranger looking things than the main topic of this thread.
