I would say it depends on the age of the children, but generally i agree and never said any different.

I dunno about not buying anything in the first place, but--call me a monster if you will--I once gave every single one of my eldest daughter's presents to one of her cousins instead because she unwrapped every present under the tree 2 weeks before Christmas. (She was well beyond the age of knowing better--8 or 9 I think.) So don't make assumptions.

You have a point, but there's a reason that all cultures have these traditions, and fairy tales. I don't have the time to look up the terms and statistics and history at the moment. There's is a physcologial benefit. (plus I can't spell phsycological and spell check doesbn't help with that one LOL)

I think the teacher was fired for making statements so insensitive as to inflict emotional duress on a room full of children. That statement's truth served no purpose. I doubt it was part of the approved curriculum. It may have been true, but it was not incumbent upon her to define or express that particular truth a few weeks before Christmas, or any other time IMO.

These are young children. Children only get to be young once. Let them enjoy it. Real life will smack the crap out of them soon enough...

You would be surprised at what all NORAD tracks on a regular basis.

While I do not tell my younger relatives about Santa Clause, I do tell them about Saint Nicholas. I know he was a real person, I have been to one of his tombs, and can tell them about that as well. But beyond that, there is one other thing I teach them is about giving from the heart, that it does not matter the price of the gift, but the importance of the thought and love that goes into it, and how the Saint does good things for those who believe.

Very sad when a lie is valued more than the truth, a lie that breeds materialistic narcissism no less.

Lying is generally bad. Duh. But in my experience, there are good lies and bad lies. Not even so much "good" lies, as much as lies that don't necessarily have any bad consequences. Often times they can even help things. Beyond that, anyone who says a teacher doesn't lie anyway is pushing it. When I was in school, it was toted constantly to make sure you do well, go to a great college, and you'll be set for life. Most millennials are struggling after going to college. Sounds like there was a lie in there to me. I'd take the Santa lie over the success lie any day.

Also, last time I checked, Christmas and Santa was about the spirit of giving and joy, being around family and enjoying this time of year. I won't get into the religious aspects, but there are more non materialistic or narcissistic values as well. The materialism comes from corporations pushing their products every year. It's probably best if you not confuse the two, but do as you will.

But why not be a little more festive? Like others have said, it adds wonderment to the holiday season, especially for children. The holiday is as much about materialism as the family makes it.

Too, why not just tell your kids that Santa is just some made up fat guy, but also teach them that others enjoy believing in Santa. Give them both sides of the story and let them decide for themselves later in life what they want to believe. For instance, my dad believes in Santa in a way. He's 60+ years old, and he believes in "Santa" or "Father Christmas" as a type of entity...not one that literally flies a sleigh or delivers gifts, but one that instills the holiday spirit within people who are open to a holiday of wonder...no matter how incredibly cheesy it sounds. Why not do your thing and let others do theirs?

my kids learned how to detect bull from a young age . Never really believed in Santa .
I spent hours telling them blony stuff they learned very fast how to know when i was full of spit .
Like back when i was your age I had to walk ten miles each way to school through raging blizzerds fighting off wolfs .
Or I am so old I remeber when we discovered fire .
Or son you would not belive how much trouble we had when we invented square wheels .

And a 100 more . A game I played so they would separate what is real from what is not as even adults believe in fairy tails . ( like honest Government .

As for other parents if I was the type to do the Santa thing ( ps never believed in that my self EVER .
well in that case it is up to me to tell my kid he is not real .
