Personally I pay in cash for anything that may reflect poorly on me. Restaurant food (diet), Drinks (alcohol consumption), over the counter medication or health products, groceries, and of course, guns or ammo. There is a tremendous amount of data out there. A powerful AI program will mine it for them, so that next time they can market directly to you at the best price. Or sell that info to your insurance company. Example: Mr. X orders french fries 4 times a week with lunch, red meat with ever meal, and too many drinks, he is at a high risk of heart attack. It's time to raise his heath insurance premiums.

Yup, that is the next step. Aggregating your entire purchase history and using that to develop risk models for insurance and credit. It won't end there. I can see models predicting crimes kind of like some precog from Minority Report. I recall reading an article many years ago that shopping habits could predict divorce.

We already know law enforcement will data mine shopping for suspects when investigating crime.

The bottomline is that you have no privacy anymore. It is gone.

That fleshlight or subscription to whatever porn site you bought 10 years ago will come back to haunt you mysteriously when you decide to run for political office.

Just if you fellas knew how in depth the information that is collected on you is. Having worked in the industry (not retail, but skip tracing/fraud) in the past, access to things you buy with cards are definitely recorded and reported to 3rd parties, "sanitized", and sold regularly. Welcome to the internet, where if something is provided for free, you are the product.

For those of you in riolinda, some of the databases I used in the past had records that go back as far as the 70s for magazine subscriptions. This isn't new, and with the digital footprints we all have, the only real way to not be traced is to have no digital footprint at all.

I could buy a file that had everywhere you have ever lived , everyone you ever lived with, every car you were insured on, you DOB, SSN, car vin numbers, license plate numbers, locations your license plate was last seen ( in some states), and everyone you have ever lived with's connections to people 3 steps out, phone numbers, associated handles and e-mail addresses. The cost at the time was $7, and it was completely legal.

Ohh, and the ways you think are best to be incognito are probably wrong, the best bet is obfuscation via lots of misleading data in a city full of people with similar names as you... not living out in the boonies.
