Lets go back 300 years and see what people thought back then about this. Would they be laughing like you are about choirs or would they just deal with it head on.

Take off your snowflake hat and poncho; your're about to take a ride into the real world.

There is something to be said for keeping your private life, you know, private?

Which is more to the point than debating if NASA is a joke, or if burning a joint is right or wrong. By letting his stuff hang out in public Musk TANKED his own stock, an triggered a bunch of unnecessary BS for himself.

ALL of which was avoidable.

By defending Musk you're celebrating "the stupid", it wouldn't have mattered if he was getting a lap-dance on Rogan's podcast OR pulling a Cheech & Chong. Airing your private life in public is always going to be risky/stupid.

Plus you're mixing up the fact that Branson nor Musk are personally responsible for all the tech their companies are producing. Their workers however ARE. Private industry is always going to be able to pay more in wages to attract the best talent.

The more important thing is that someone from NASA went public an made a VERY uncharacteristic statement.
Same as recently the USDA made the blanket statement to toss romaine.

Both agencies broke with established norms of communication. Very Odd.

The only poor decision he made was taking a public toke, knowing that there are plenty of old world establishment mouthpieces that would love nothing more than to take him down a peg by playing on the same old tired “cannabis use = dumb” propaganda. The way cannabis users are viewed and treated by the establishment and it’s cronies is criminal. So many decent people have been kidnapped and imprisoned for nothing more than self medicating, lives ruined, families broken apart over nothing. It’s enraging to live in a world with this many blind and/or stupid people just gobbling up establishment lies then ostracizing their fellow man based on said lies.

I used to be a fan of Elon until I recognized all of the sketchy things he's done with shareholders' money, not to mention Tesla's very questionable accounting methods.

He literally used shareholder money to bail out his cousins at SolarCity

I think people need to wake up, and NASA needs to realize that only those smoking pot will believe what they tell us.

I think it is the opposite which is why they don't want people smoking it.

Double standards much? I wonder how many addicts sits in the congress and how many addicts works for NASA. Ofc Musk's competition is pure like a virgin and never drinks, take drugs or even smoke. This stinks.

meh he may be erratic in some of his behavior.

But hes accomplished more in the way of actual TECH than in the last 10 years than NASA has in 20

While that's true, it's likely due to the amount of money that SpaceX can direct at a single program, unlike NASA who has many different programs it needs to fund (such as NASA paying Musk and SpaceX money to help Musk develop his space hardware)

If we look back to a time when NASA had huge amounts of funding they could devote to just one program -- the Apollo program -- NASA got plenty more done in a shorter amount of time.

But yeah, SpaceX has some great ideas and is very good at implementing them, similar to how NASA's contractors who built the Apollo hardware (Grumman, North American Aviation, Douglas, Boeing, etc.) were great at implementing ideas when given the funding focus that the Apollo program provided during the Apollo days.

Theyre right to be scared of him and critical, hes proven that all the money we give them every year is wasted.

AND NASA IS FUNDED MILLIONS MORE EVERY YEAR!

You realize that much of the money Musk makes from spaceflight right now is money that NASA pays him through NASA's COTS Program and its CCDev Program. SpaceX likely would not have grown so fast without NASA's COTS and CCDev moneys.

It's not as if SpaceX first developed the Dragon Capsule and the Falcon 9, then NASA decided to pay to use them, but rather it's the other way around. The reason Musk and SpaceX developed the Dragon Capsule and the Falcon 9 is because NASA promised to pay if they did.

I'm sure Musk will eventually make more money later from non-NASA contracts -- and he does make some good money for launch services by same non-NASA entities, and from the development of the Falcon Heavy -- but as long as NASA is helping to foot the bill to help keep SpaceX going, and as long as they are going to pay SpaceX for services, they have a right to be at least a little demanding of SpaceX.

From wikipedia:

On September 1, 2017, President Donald Trump nominated Bridenstine to be the Administrator of NASA; he was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 19, 2018. Bridenstine has served on the Committee on Science, Space and Technology during his time in Congress. He is the first elected official to serve as NASA Administrator.[1] His nomination drew controversy given his lack of formal qualifications in science or engineering, and his previous rejection of the scientific consensus on climate change.

All Musk has to do is wait him out, he won't be around long. He's an old flat-earther from fly-over country, Oklahoma where the only science they have is moonshine stills. Worse, he's a cis-gendered hetero, probably married to a cis-gendered woman and with kids.

When Kamala Harris takes the White Hut, he will be out on his ear and doubtless replaced by someone far more politically correct and from a part of the US that has science.

I will not touch on the subject of whether he should or not show his public life, cause that's opinion based, but you are wrong on one crucial part. In contrast to the NASA honcho Musk is literally a rocket scientist that spends most of his Space X time (yea he has to split time across a few companies heh) designing rockets.

So on that part you are wrong, as a lot of the rocket design is his and not his employed workers. Of course they have a lot of input, but he is designing them, not just making administrative decisions like our funny NASA friend there... So therein lies a crucial difference between him and the NASA administrator...
