A 1966 find in a Utah lake unearthed a medallion that bears a striking similarity to "The Lady of Elche" which dates back to the Iberian culture of Spain (somewhere around the 5th or 6th century B.C).

What is interesting to me if any of this is true are the ear coverings and necklace both figures are wearing in spite of Utah not be very close to Spain.. haha ..Some are claiming the Lady was a descendant from Atlantis..

I am not convinced Atlantis was the real deal to begin with however those ear rings (also found on statues/Paintings in Bolivia, Peru, and other parts of the Andes) seem to show some kind of connection.... Anyway I thought it was interesting and maybe someone else will to. youtu.be...

Man, that goes with lost civilization in the grand canyon.....

Egypt demanded the relics back in the 1880s and wanted the Smithsonian to keep the lid on it. Under the North Rom and extending 65 miles North....huge hollowed out areas with flowing air denoted by red smoke tests, affirmed by forest service seeing the smoke a week later...

Egypt in the grand canyon...are we in the u s a Atlantis idk

How old is the Utah find?
Is there any reason why it should not have been brought to Mexico by the Spanish (as a representation of Mary), stolen by the Indians, and traded as far as Utah?

It was found in 1966

I was wondering if there were any clues about when it was made. But I suppose that sort of question is normally answered by comparison with other artefacts in the tradition, whuch wouldn't be available.

Unless I'm mistaken, the coin's entire provenance is in this post over here.

From your link:

In 1966, my late father was digging a sewer line for a rental property that he was fixing up to rent. As he was a metal detecting enthusiast among many other things, he ran his old metal detector along the bottom and sides of the new trench. He uncovered this curiosity at 6 ft. 6 1/2 inches in depth. From what research I have been able to do, the lady pictured on the piece is Lady of Elche, of what is now Spain. The writings around the outside of the piece appear to be cuneiform? I do not believe the piece is a hoax, as the property had never been dug up at that depth before, the patina seems to be correct, and who in the world in central Utah had heard or cared about Lady of Elche enough to make an extensive hoax and bury it to that depth with a extremely slight chance of it ever being unearthed? I would like to mention that I was there when he dug the piece, along with a friend of his. Upon inspection under a loupe, there are a couple of places that may show that it was gold plated when original? I believe the piece is bronze, but may be wrong. Any help or ideas???

Thank you for adding content to the thread.

Thank you. If it isn't a hoax, I still like my "some Spaniard decided to use it as a Mary medallion" idea

You're welcome and thanks for an interesting thread.

As provenance goes, it isn't good is it? It's got artistic merit in its favour as the design is well executed and attractive. Most hoaxes I've seen look home made because they are; this is to a much higher standard.

The OP in the link makes interesting posts further down. He seems to be saying his find is actually a medallion/button that was being sold in numbers on Ebay at the time. It suggests his find could well have been old, but relatively modern considering it was mass-produced enough to be sold on Ebay. Perhaps it was more of a 20th Century Spanish object rather than a centuries-old mystery.

Wow this is cool. We hear so little of pre-Roman or even pre Catholic Iberia.

Please provide any supporting references to this crazy claim.

The source of the Utah find? Looks like it's on the following post, from 2012- See here.

The speculation further on in the thread is it's a button/medallion that was sold by a lady on Ebay.

Would look more into that as the thread appears to be the original source.
