More Evidence Herpes Virus Strongly Tied to Alzheimer's

New research shows that there is a link between the common cold sore and Alzheimer's disease. More than 30 million people worldwide have Alzheimer’s disease – the most common form of dementia. Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1), is better known for causing cold sores. It infects most people in childhood, and then remains dormant in the peripheral nervous system (the part of the nervous system that isn’t the brain and the spinal cord). Discoveries in 1991 show that in many elderly people, HSV1 is also present in the brain. And in 1997 further research showed that it confers a strong risk of Alzheimer’s disease when present in the brain of people who have a specific gene known as APOE4. It was then found that HSV1 infection of cell cultures causes beta-amyloid and abnormal tau proteins to accumulate. An accumulation of these proteins in the brain is characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease. Data suggest that antiviral agents might be used for treating Alzheimer’s disease. Now would be a good time to invest in companies that sell these IV antiviral medications.

Pump and dump?

Seems premature to begin buying stock in Big Pharma's meds when a definitive link hasn't even been established, nor have any clinical trials been done.

While it has been proven that viruses can trigger many things, might be wiser to have a more informed body of data before heavily investing perhaps.

The link isn't quite as definitive as they would have us believe that things seem. There is a closer relationship with the buildup of Tau proteins in all forms of Dementia, including the 6 main types of Fronto-Temporal Dementia (behavioral variant, supra-nuclear palsy., semantic variant primary primary aphasia, non-fluent agrammatic variant primary aggressive, corticobasal syndrome, progressive supranuclear palsy, and FrontoTemporal Dementia's associatedwith motor neuron diseases like ALS/ Lou Gherig's and Multiple Sclerosis.

There are 30 million people world wide who have Alzheimer's. It's an awful diagnosis and sounds like a lot of people. When we look at it in context though, a world wide count of 30 million, (a little less than 10% of,the,U.S. Population) Compared to the world wide percentages of people between 18 and 50 who test positive for the HPV virus (60%. +/-).

If there were a closer analogy between HOV and Alzheimer's, I would expect to see a higher rate of other Alzheimer's and the other Dementia's. The combed total of all Dementia's is,still under 30% and there are more specific genetic markers such as the mutation on Chromosome 9 open reading frame 72 (C9orf73)

It would nonetheless, be really amazing if an effective treatment came out of this.

Is there any evidence or data that links the HSV1 and demyelination of neurons? that is seen in many of AD's cases and was being looked into as caused by an auto immune attack a while back........

Definitely worth keeping an eye out for. Thanks for sharing this. My Aunt had Alzheimer's and it is a horrible thing to go through. Hopefully this info gets us one step closer to a cure.

This OP is about the progress in defeating Alzheimer's disease. That is why it as been placed into this forum. Sorry you missed the point.
