He was big news because he wrote Op-Eds for the WaPo. That's about it.

The fact he became a story is the equivalent of the press screaming, "Donald Trump doesn't care about news people." (a la Kanye West's Katrina moment.)

But Trump is not the first president to turn a cheek to SA. We don't need them as an ally though, it's not a good look.

Khashoggi is about as big a news as Daniel Perl who got beheaded. How many cares did anyone give about him?

As far as I have read it was a consulate not an embassy, so is not Saudi turf but is still Turkish ground.
