It's only 9:30pm and yet they've already made 11 million in donations. Holy smokes.

Last year it got to 36 million, and when I was a kid it was lucky to make over 1 million in 24 hours.

Just goes to show, the most remote city on the planet, has a heart to fill all of Australia. This time of year always lifts my heart, those kids deserve every cent. Even if it is full of ... lol, twats..

A very small amount of that will actually make it’s way to children. The rest will pay for broadcasting costs, and employees of the charity.

That might be the case elsewhere, but this has been an annual charity since 1968, and every dollar raised has gone to the charities promised. Everyone who appears does so as a volunteer.

You'd think that if it were only giving a pittance out to the charities involved, they'd not part of it, year after year.

It's one of those things down here. It's certainly not some low key event that can get away with that sort of thing.

I hate to burst your bubble but in the UK Cancer Research raises 500 million pounds each year. Roughly 140 million is paid in wages to the people that ask you for a donation and the rest goes to "research". Research in their case means paying the wages and facility costs of what is more or less, big pharma. Guess what? After 50+ years there's still no cure for cancer but it keeps some people in employment.

Hate to burst your bubble. Look into Perth Telethon.

The money goes where it is promised. you show me ONE organisation, ONE charity, ONE entity that has not received what they had been given.

ffs, trying to spread something cheerful and all there is is this.

Waste of time around here....

If any of you who don't live in a suck of a place wish to look into it, you'll see this is a 100% legit charity event, and no suckers taking 90% of the donations for themselves. No one is paid to participate, at least not out of the donations, no one apart from Channel 7 pays for the fees to broadcast, hell even the damn prime minister donated $2million.

www.perthnow.com.au...

But you all go on with your miserably sad existences that revolve around people who scam everything, stealing from charities.

god almighty, I even posted in the first post, the wiki to show how this event works.

I wasn't trying to rain on your parade and I did read the wiki link before replying. Unfortunately, I know how many outwardly-appearing well-meaning charities work. YMMV.
