I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this topic, so mods, please move if that proves to be the case.

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone can shed some light one the word/concept of "FNORD". I did a search here, but quickly became "lazy" looking for a short answer- I'm at work, don't have that extra to time weed through everything. Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction.

Also, how about a description/def. of "Discordia". I have come across these things in my research but have yet to "dive" into the topic until today.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's kinda hard to explain...
It represents things done to hide the truth of a matter, for instance, in the Illluminatus Trilogy it's literally the word "fnord" itself. It is a mind-control technique which has been applied to you (by those who are *in control*) since birth in such a fashion that you no longer see it for what it is (the word fnord) but you respond to it by dumbing up, or ignoring, or overlooking, the statement to which it is applied.
Of course in real life, there isn't the actual word "fnord" printed next to stuff "they" want you to ignore/overlook, but stuff does happen on occasion that makes me think "gosh, they're trying to pull the wool over my eyes" by distracting me with something else.
Hard to define, but it happens all the time.
I could go on and on about Discordianism and such but it makes me paranoid!

There's a big list of silly definitions of "fnord" out there somewhere on the net, but it's of little worth.

Thanx! I think you did a very good job of explaining it- much appreciated.

Question: Is the origin of FNORD the Illuminatus Trilogy? Or does it go back much further? How about discordia? Is that a reletively "new" idea?

Again Thanx!
