Trump Accuses China Of Trying To Interfere In Midterm Elections, Citing Trade Dispute

Interesting claims coming from Trump saying China is trying to interfere with the 2018 elections.

President Trump accused China of trying to interfere in upcoming U.S. midterm elections because of the hard line he has taken on trade, airing the claim as he opened Tuesday's meeting of the U.N. Security Council in New York.

"They do not want me or us to win because I am the first president to ever challenge China on trade, and we are winning on trade," Trump continued. "We are winning at every level."

After accusing China of seeking to undermine his administration, Trump said it "has been a pleasure and an honor" to work with Xi, along with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, in attempts to broker peace on the Korean Peninsula.

I'm interested to see how this plays out, but I don't think the UN security council was the proper place to bring up these accusations without proof being presented. I think this is just going to stir the pot of accusations with the next cycle coming up. 2016 was a circus IMO, and I don't see the trend breaking anytime soon. Unfortunately both parties will run with stories before they're proven to be true, which makes us all have to be extra vigilant in vetting claims.

We've all discussed it many times over. It seems to be common knowledge amongst informed people.

Most Nations, especially superpowers, interfere in other Nation's elections and politics.

Trump knows this, so what could the agenda be besides the usual distraction?

This is just Trump trying to get ahead of any losses in the upcoming elections. If the Republicans lose out to Democrats Trump will declare that China has influenced the election in their favor. Probably with some kind of committee to investigate it.

Well there are three big schools of thought on this.

1. It didn't happen.
2.it happened and it was an attack.
3. It happened but we do it too so as long as it was limited to just speech I'm not deviated.

I'm number 3, China very well may be doing it, and as long as it's limited to speech it is what it is in a free society.

I just don't want to see Trump cry foul, or his base.

I believe he's referring to their purchasing of billboards in the midwest to provoke farmers into voting against the GOP due to trade war impacting the farmers.

To be fair I see his point and this is what China is doing because it can't win the trade war and Xi knows this. The CCP is hoping for a blue wave and then a neutered Trump to negotiate with the lowest possible impact on China.
