I never really thought about it as an addiction but rather a time killer lol.
A lot of times when there is nothing better to do I just look up stuff for fun. Sometimes not even in a sexual way since internet porn can have more of an entertainment factor.

I always figured I would know when addicted sets in when I need it to get horny. Luckly my imagination is still good enough when the internet isn't around. As far as buying porn, who buys their porn anymore when there is high speed internet?

Sometimes I wonder what seeing all that stuff does to my mind though especially with the internet. Things like two girls one cup has probably warped my brain for life. Nevermind I said that.

What's the % of men/women who are addicted? Who knows, but I can say I don't know anyone who hasn't seen a porno or such.

Well my best friend looked like a young Alain Delon. He got into a bad relationship and took to porn for solace. His wife was horrible and only wanted a british passport really.

We used to kid around about his tash then he got into the web. Ten years on he is stuck older heftier and still without any woman in his life. Fiar choice and I support his rights etc. But it is also a waste of a life to go chasing after the virtual when he is better with a decent woman flesh and blood woman. He seems to be getting more and more slovenly about his appearance and how he keeps his apartment etc.

I think he has issues and turned to porn for solace and became addicted to porn. All men have had a few knocks but where is the get back in the game attitude. 10 years is a long time to be without a woman.

"I always figured I would know when addicted sets in when I need it to get horny. "

I disagree I believe one obvious addiction is when someone consciously forsake opportunities to go out and meet real women who they may be able to form a sexual relationship with. Not just when you need porn to become excited.

I am not a prude or anything I will put up some evidence about porn as a drug latter.

Personally, I believe viewing pornographic material can lead to an addiction. However, I also believe that addicted or not, it is wrong. Like the second poster in this thread stated, it caused major issues between her and her ex-husband. No doubt, we can find countless women that have been hurt by their husbands/boyfriends addiction to pornography. What is more degrading than not being "enough" for your partner? I would be so hurt if I found that out myself.

Pornography helps assist divorce rates, but also profits. It's availability drives a media-centred nation to crave what it feels it needs in all forms of media, and thus sexuality makes its way into all aspects of society.

Whether you think its okay to view pornography or not just because the adults "consent" to it is besides the fact that it is degrading to your partner. I don't want to condemn anyone, and I'm not, but personally I feel it would be very painful for my partner to find out that she wasn't good enough visually for me, and I needed to get my fix elsewhere.

Factually, it drives down self-confidence. If you can find a partner that is cool with you seeing that stuff, then I will a judgment and say that that personal is not thinking through things and that there is something wrong between the two of you.

As for the amount of men that do it, I would put the number around 80% regularly, and 40% chronically addicted.

As for females, I think the number is more around 20%.

My guesses on percentages are for the whole north-American population and exclude children and other parts of the population who would typically not view this material.

here is my primary source artice.

www.therapytoday.net...

According to the internet filter review site.
40 million Americans attend porn sites every month. 1/3 of all downloads each month and ¼ of all online searches are porn related.

internet-filter-review.toptenreviews.com...

here are a few points that came out of it. but the entire article is worth of a read.

According to Nielsen on line survey during 2008 25% of employees are assessing porn at work.

Men's health did a survey did a 2004 survey and found over 70% of men surveyed confessed to looking at more porn since the advent of mass internet usage and “one in two confessed to being concerned as to porn usage.

The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the British Nielsen NetRatings organization have identified porn as a major source of divorce and relationship difficulties. An MSNBC survey in 2000 revealed that 70% of porn users kept their porn use secret. MSNBC also found that eight to 15 percent of internet porn users develop compulsive sexual behaviours that significantly impact their lives.

Now IMHO this research is in its infancy the linkage between porn and adverse sexual behaviour requires additional study but it is still worthy of research.

Porn is addictive to those who have plenty of idle time. If you are busy and involved in your work or hobbies, you have less probability of becoming addicted. An empty mind is the devil's workshop.

anything can be addictive in my opinion..and i read somewhere that 90%-98% of males have watched porn and uhh wanked off to it...females are slightly less....so i mean i would believe

1. 10-20% of men would be ADDICTED ..as in doing it 4 or more times a day

2. i dont think any females are lol

3. watching porn doesnt affect relationships in my opnion, your upbringing and personality does. unless you are addicted to it and doing it everytime then its just similar to alcoholism..

I really need to stop looking at porn....Better yet I really need a girlfriend. I find just looking at porn is starting to give me a headache as if parts of my frontal lobe are degenerating. And I don't have much of that part of my brain to begin with. If you want to overcome a porn addiction then stop fapping and meditate more

I think the number is higher for males than the female ones, but we can't deny the fact that there are women who are also going through porn addiction. My best friend's bf was a porn addict and she told me that whenever she sleeps over at his bf's place, she also gets "involved" on several internet porn activities. He enrolled in a therapy program which actually taught him how to eliminate the urge despite being in front of the computer. It was called GreatnessAhead, if I'm not mistaken. I think porn addiction and sex addiction are generally linked to each other and good thing my friend didn't eventually become a porn addict herself.
