How To Get A Crowd

In the 1950's a footbridge was constructed to cross a body of water near Pitlochry in Scotland. The bridge was built on land, fixed to a swivelling base at one end. When finished it was to be floated around on barges and the other end would be attached to a concrete base on the other side of the water.

As the big day drew near the engineer became concerned at the lack of interest from the public and the press. So he started a rumour suggesting he'd got his calculations wrong, and it was all going to be a big embarrassment with the bridge unable to be connected.

A big crowd turned out expecting disaster only to see the bridge fit perfectly into place.

One happy engineer.

who the hell remembers the name of an engineer after a structure is opened. it is only the mayor's name that will be remembered.
