"NAFTA" is terminated. The new US Mexico trade deal sounds like ANOTHER campaign promise kept.

If true, this is an excellent way to approach the overall issues: the disparages in trade, the Mexican poverty that is driving illegal immigration, and the loss of American jobs to Mexican plants. By requiring a higher wage in order to trade with the US, companies in Mexico will be forced onto a leveler playing field that allows America to compete. In addition, the plants that do relocate to Mexico will stimulate their local economy and help bring the country out of poverty.
I still want to hear the official announcement, but it sounds like a win-win all around. Now to Canada...

Just adopt mexico and build a wall in central 'merica.
and one for Canada too.
But truly most of the illegals going into your country come from latin America, not Mexico, as far as i know at least.
Mexico is in a bad place not because of not being able to do better but because of corruption of politicians

That's a good point that I guess I overlooked in my joy at hearing the news. Of course, Trump also stated that Mexico would be working with us on the immigration problem, so maybe they can stem that flow as well.

Absolutely, but I suspect it's more than just a desire to be corrupt. Once corruption has a foothold, it can become dangerous to not participate... that is the danger facing US politics. It is the difference between having a choice of whether to take the drug money or not, and of having a choice to either take the drug money and live or refuse it and die.
Nothing will change in that respect overnight, agreed. It may well take years. But if one is thinking, "it'll be 20 years before the corruption is rooted out if we start today," I respond with, "how long will it take if we don't start today?"
