New Course by Royal Navy: A Campaign to Recruit Gays (moved from ATSNN)

The Anti-Gay sentiment in the British Navy seems to be cooling down a bit as some officers are remembering all the past comotion and wondering what the fuss was about. Hailed as a good step forward the military hopes this plays out as action towards a progressive military and not just mere talk.



As nice as it sounds on the outside, it seems hardly realistic the Navy will be able to recruit effectively or raise their rate of recruited gays just by advertising in gay magazines.

If their advertising campaign moved into the more heterosexual sphere of society, campaigning for gay inclusion in their realm of entertainment, sports and society then it is assumable that gays will be more comfortable serving in the military.

Other than that it seems as if it might just be mere talk, but we will have to wait and see on the outcomes of their advertising schemes.

IMHO mixed sexuality armies rarely function well.
An all gay military works, and an all straight military works but a mixed one doesn't.

At least now I can say acurately that the UK has the Gayest navy in the world

I don't think you have any information really on who has the gayest army in the world. It probably would be China's since China has the largest army int he world. More people, more gays. Very simple.

Simple really, the most important thing in any branch of the military is discipline, second is morale.
An all gay military works as it enforces both, so does an all straight.
However when you begin mixing sexuality you encounter problems, the mixture of homo and heterosexuals leads to additional conflicts within the ranks which breaks down disclipline, and subsequently morale.
It the same reason that women are not allowed on submarines.
All gay armies, as history has shown us, can be very effectve, particularly when comprised of mated pairs working in 5 pair squads as the base unit, ala the (i think it was) athenian model.

Your point makes sense only under the assumption that the Gay and Straight people already have underlying conflicts within their own society that are then brought into their relationshiops within the military.

As I stated in post now just a (submission) I think if the Navy were to focus their advertising campaign on the straight people it would make the gay people more comfortable and probably break down some of the conflict within the society and hence within military relationships.

No doubt your point makes sense, but their ought to be a way to have an integrated military without conflict.

Yeah and there ought to be a way for all nations to lve in harmony, there ought to be a way to ensure everyone has truly equal opportunntes, however if you make policy based on what ought to be your'e gonna get killed by the guys who make policy based on the way things are.
