The sheer idiocy and pointlessness of threads like these is that it presumes that ALL Republicans hold the same values and POV and ALL Democrats hold the same values and POV. And further that the values and POV of the respective parties are static. The pointy-headed among us actually believe that. There are people who 'vote party' no matter what. They don't even bother researching the candidates. It's either R or D right down the line. But most people are more discerning than that. The whole Republican/Democrat paradigm is killing this country. Anyone with even the slightest glimmer of intellect can see that. One of the most telling measures of a society is the wealth disparity between rich and poor. The wider that gap, the less stable the society. This measure has been used globally for decades. As has been pointed out, that disparity has seen an unprecedented increase in recent years. I don't care who is running the show. That trend has got to be reversed or this country is doomed. End of story.

If you don't see the ironic hypocrisy in this then I'm not sure anything in this world can show you.

Even more far left than the one in the states.
But I was a labour man for years.

The question that suits your answer is.
Have you ever been a decent human being?.

I think the bigger shocker is that Republicans are actually left of center. Which might be the basis of a further thread exploring the political ideologies in general. Just that they being more right of today’s Progressive Democrats makes them appear right wing. Republicans are also less authoritarian despite being regularly called fascists.

Never been a Democrat. I've floated between Republican, GOP, Constitutionalist, and Independence party candidates over the past 20 years, but there's nary a Democrat among those I've supported. My values and beliefs are just too much in opposition with them and their view of America for me to ever support them.

If You Are Not a Liberal at 25, You Have No Heart. If You Are Not a Conservative at 35 You Have No Brain

I'm reminded of this famous quote which seems to get attributed to multiple sources. I'll be honest, having a heart... or at least what the quote is considering a heart, that ideological bleeding heart crap, is something I've always viewed as a fatal weakness, A trap people fall into shortly before they find themselves fleeced and broken by a squadron of humanity all too happy to separate others from their own money, their passions, their rights. Life can have that kind of heart, I've never needed it. Thus, I don't vote liberal, period.

Great information, thanks for that. I did not know about half of that list. Elizabeth Warren? Strom Thurmond?

As I kept reading I was almost expecting to see Bernie Sanders down towards the bottom -- you never know! A politician is a politician!

Ah, this quote. I love this one, if only because its such a meaty discussion topic. Which version of humanity is better, the Smart but heartless version, or the Stupid but Caring version?

I have a hard time imagining a world were callous predatory behavior is the norm, expected, applauded and awarded. I have an easier/more pleasant time imagining a world where people are generally good-natured but not that smart.

Aside from purely a survival mindset (and I'd like to imagine we've moved past that as a species if only a little bit), who would laud trading morality for intelligence?

I'm independent.

I would vote Democrat if it was a really good candidate or Republican for that matter. will probably vote independent next election. We'll see who runs.

The cool thing about being independent is you never have the need to vote to block the other party. You vote for who you like. And it pisses everyone off around you who is a democrat or republican. LOL

Nader was unsafe at any speed. But seriously, his politics especially domestic economics would have sped up globalization spearheaded by Daddy Bush and followed through by Clinton.

Well, morality isn't governed by the heart, so... I don't see morality and intelligence as being exclusive of each other. That said, I don't see "saving the world from its own stupidity and bad choices" as being part of morality, either. Decisions have consequences and letting natural consequences happen is arguably a moral course of action. It is, after all, how a species grows and strengthens, the culling of the weakest is necessary in all species for the good of the whole.

Call me whatever you want. Doesn’t really matter to me. The deductible on the expensive healthcare was also outrageous. So until something is figured out, I’ll just continue to pay out of pocket and keep the saved money in case of an emergency. Funny how these old ass politicians have better healthcare for free compared to my expensive unusable insurance for my healthy family.

And that species was blessed with a great gift. Perhaps the greatest gift ever given to a species on this rock.

Intelligence which can be used to adapt.

I could have seen Bernie picked as a possible VP for LaRouche or at least a cabinet position. Keep in mind Democratic Socialists are fairly authoritarian, but not as much as Progressive Socialists. They have to be in order to advance and enforce their policies for social order.

I really do need to do a thread on general political ideology and comparative liberalism, which is what US politics is.

I'm not trying to get on your case man, I'm just saying I think the old healthcare we had before ACA was introduced was in fact an illusion of health care. Yes, I paid a lot less, and since I'm a healthy young(ish) man I never had to use it, therefore it was perfect for me (and it sounds like you too). However, there were others out there (who very well could be you or I with an unfortunate turn of health) who couldn't afford the health care to keep themselves alive and couldn't get insurance to help pay for it either. Those were the people whom the ACA was designed to help, and (although the incarnation that came to pass was far from perfect) restricting the ability of the insurance companies to drop people as soon as they started incurring health care costs is only a positive thing in my eyes.

I for sure share your sentiment that the free healthcare politicians get should be the defacto standard free healthcare for all US citizens.
