The continuing event has now stats that follows:

Over 2000 people evacuated, 9.4 square miles of lava coverage, hotel bookings down by over 50%.

1 active fissure, 2 'semi-active' and 1 that is showing indications of picking up again (hopefully not). The Halema'uma'u crater has deformed and collapsed on several occasions and is already percentage wise much larger than before the event.

The disaster is still ongoing.

I'm doing work to translate the original video in the opening post.

Seems like USGS came out with a statement that the ongoing eruption is unprecedented the past 200 years. So not such a common event that was earlier suggested here.

Typhoon Lane, may have something to do with this prediction, if it aggravates the ongoing volcanic episode at the Big Island's coastline. I've heard on the boob tube about rivers flowing along and across lava flow tops, which have solidified.

The eruption pretty much stopped a few weeks ago.

The hurricane aggravated nothing. But there were some flash flood problems in a few locales.
