Can a handbag be considered art?

Look what I sewed all by myself:


My first handbag. With dark jeans inside for stability.

That is art. handmade, and looks nice. I hope the strap is strong enough to hold up.

I read the title and my first thought was "Ugh. Is someone going to put one of those Louis Vuitton things on here and ask if that's art?" I kinda feel bad thinking like that now.

Sure, art is subjective and as such there are many examples of art which I think are completely rubbish.

Seems these days anything can be considered art but to my mind a decorated handbag is a decorated handbag not a work of art , your creation is craft.
Just my opinion.

Yes handbags can also be "art".
There is design, structure, materials, texture, purpose and indeed craftsmanship in some, altho not all.

I guess you're right , craft is in itself a form of art as you're creating something using skill and vision.
Music is art so why not handbags.

Can't comment on the bag as I'm a bloke and know not of these things.

If putting it on display I think Art would be an appropriate description, if you will be using it regularly, I would lean more towards 'Fashion'.
Either way it takes skill and craftiness to achieve what you have!

I took fabrics in high school and made a lot of these. They make great gifts and designing is fun so it's win-win

It’s up to you to decide if it’s art or not. I can break a bottle on the ground and call it art, and some people will agree. Your hand bag is more appealing than half the crap at the SFMoma for sure. No joke, they have blank photos, literally just black. The artist is trying to convey the point that nothing lasts forever. Wtf
