Animals reacting in similar fashion is a pretty good indicator.

We all jumped with the cookie sheet. I didn't have a good line of sight for the whistling.

And I am GLAD that alien SOB wasn't trying to grind. I'd have done more than try to punch him.

This reminds me of what I find so disappointing about alien representation in media...

The aliens are either untouchable robots, swamp thing/monstrous bugs, or stoner dudes who want to party.

I think the reality lies somewhere between the robot, and an episode of FX's Legion... which is a lot of ground to cover, and most people don't have the imagination.

There's a weird alien-as-Mesoamerican god animation at the end of one of them. This came to mind.
