Question on "The Manchurian Candidate"

Okay, this is basically a quickie one, but I figured it sort of applied here, but anyhow, in the remake of the movie, in the end, you see the gov't taking the film footage that showed Denzel Washington's character entering the building (where he shot the two Shaws) and basically "erasing" him out of the footage and then placing the image of another man, who was dead, into it (upon which they then tell the public that they "thought" this man was dead).

My question is, is it technically possible to change film like that, or was that just made up for the movie?

The movie, "The Rising Sun," with Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes deals with film as evidence that has been tampered with. IMO, if it's not currently possible, it will be shortly.

I do believe they can change film, i.e., like the example from the movie. I don't think they do it the same way they show in the movie, though. It would probably take some time and I imagine you would have to maybe do it frame by frame.

It would probably be digital.......think about how they do special effects...........golem of Lord of the Rings wasn't real; he was "overwritten," on an actor.

its easy to digitise it and do anything you want then transfer it onto new film, destroy the original and none would be the wiser.

I think is already here the technology, you can used it at home to enhance pictures and home made movies, for fun.

So who is to tell that is not been used for other purpose as to cover ups.

if you look at the situation from a point of view,
that "the goverment" has always better technology, like the rest of the world,
i think it is very possible, that "the goverment" can change just about anything,
from photo to video, for their own purposes.

Their was a court case, in Europe that got thrown out because the video evidence was edited. I'll speak to my Law teacher, Wednesday, and get the name of the case for you.

It's possible and has been done many times. (I did media last year) we have editing software in the class rooms that you can use, to change an image over. If the person is of more mass then the one they're over-righting. (So he takes up more space.) It's a frame-by-frame process, amazingly slow, would take weeks for a few seconds of footage. But it is possible.

not to long ago I saw on the news where they take this new technology to catch child pornographers with their own pictures from websites by erasing the nude child and revealing the entire background as if the child was never there

so yes I believe they can do what they did in the manchurain candidate
