Sorry, I need a people opinion on this and don't know if this is the right thread for it.

So, this 60+ guy commented on a 16 year old child image saying 'wow, you're so pretty'. This 60+ man has no relations to this girl. He complete stranger on the net.

Is this creepy in your books?

It is a bit creepy, but easily taken out of context. Despite her being a minor, it sounds like he merely paid her a compliment. Provided he didn't say anything perverted or degenerate, it sounds innocent enough.

Regardless, I personally don't think it is appropriate for adults (unrelated) to be contacting minors over the Net especially to make statements like that. In this day and age, even an innocent compliment can be unnerving because you have no way to know that individual's intentions

Can she block his account from contacting her?

FB? Could be nothing if that's all that's said. Anything further and I'd be wary.

Well, I guess it would really be the context in which he said it. I work with special needs children, and one I am at the Boys and Girls club with. Anyway there was the 5-11 stunning girl with bright blue eyes.... I remember I commented to one of the Staff members, that she was very pretty and looked like a model(she was not wearing make up) I said how old is she, because she was so tall, I was shocked to hear she was only 12.

So the reason I am telling you this, as a GAY man I was not at all interested, and my comment was very innocent. The staff member knew that, when I said what I did, because she knew me very well. I am certain she did not think my comment was creepy.

This guy, may have meant it innocently, but yeah it could be a creep comment too. Did he say it creepy? Or was it more in passing? Meaning did he oogle at the pic? Oh yeah I am 47 BTW.

Hard to say: he's of the generation that openly gave compliments to other people until all the PC and protective (for self/and others) kicked in.

My spider sense says to be careful, as the Internet is device used to suck others in.

Hard to say without the context of the whole story as JBurns said. How and why is the 16 year old communicating with this person? It doesn't feel right to me.

Personally, I feel like all communication should be stopped immediately and blockers put on.

Hope that helps.

Is it wrong to tell a young girl she is pretty?
If so, I am guilty of this crime.

Just stop creepin' and you won't need to ask such questions

Personally, I find it flattering if it does not go any further than that. But in today's world that is very inappropriate. The "wow" makes it a little off-putting.

I don’t think it can be automatically taken as creepy. If he said hot, or sexy, then total creepy mofo. Maybe don’t put stuff on fb. You can avoid a ton of crap by being less vain.

Post a picture and I'll ask my pal Jimmy A for his honest opinion.

It does have some creep yes. Either the 60 year old, does NOT get that this is inappropriate, or they are trying to get into an inappropriate discussion.

May have been paying a compliment to the girl, but in these times of liberal thinking,I guess it would be 1st thought of a quote from Joe Biden,in that case, yes was said in perverted way

Personally, I think its suspect.

Lets say that this person was not commenting on a profile picture or something of that nature, but was walking down the road and happened to spot said lass. If he thought to himself "My, oh my! She is very pretty", but kept that to himself out of a sense of decorum and respect, then that would be one thing. But if he were to stop her to tell her "Goodness, you are pretty", that would be improper and somewhat creepy.

And the other thing is this...

The real issue here is not whether the individual concerned is a genuine creep, but whether the interaction in question made the young lady feel self conscious, or uncomfortable in some way. If so, then regardless of the intention behind the comment made, its not right and needs sorting out.
