I would like to point out the Maori in New Zealand as some of the originators of modern warfare (and thus Special Forces).
The Maori invented trench warfare as a means of overcoming English muskets. Some of their fixed defences of a hundred and fifty odd years ago would
not be out of place today.
Having said that, Maori were much like the Samurai of Japan in that battle was more personal with each combatant knowing the heritage of the other
before combat and similar ranked warriors being paired off.
The key to understanding all special forces is the mission they are assigned - very few SF around the word are assigned the same mission and thus
comparison is very difficult. For Example Delta is more about anti-terrorism than the SAS, and the SAS is more about anti-terrorism than Spetznaz.
The point I'm trying to make is pick a mission and one SF is better than another, but overall they are very much like any other.
