Just thought that you guys in this forum might be interested in this game. Check it out:
www.area51-game.com...

Game Description:

The U.S. Army has received a distress signal from Area 51 where a viral outbreak has just shut down the research facility and the automated quarantine procedures have locked all scientific and military personnel inside. A small Special Forces unit including Specialist Ethan Cole of the HAZMAT (hazardous materials) Division is sent to investigate.

As Cole, players delve into the massive levels within the confines of Area 51, only to discover a deadly mutagenic side effect of the virus that controls the minds of those infected, as well as an ancient alien colony buried beneath the facility. Players will uncover the truth behind chilling conspiracies as they come across the remnants of the extraterrestrial crash at Roswell, alien autopsies, and the faked lunar landing. Cole must solve the enigma of Area 51 before the viral mutagen is released and irrevocably mutates all life on Earth.

Seemed a bit cheesy at first, but after checking out the official site and viewing the trailer (right-click save target as) I became more interested. They're obviously going for the hollywood sci-fi feel with it, but I guess it's supposed to stay true to a lot of real life incidents like Roswell. And apparently David Duchovny's doing the voice acting for the lead character too (no coincidence there).

Anyways I thought it was at least worth keeping an eye on if you're a fan of fps games. So far they gave it an estimated April '05 release date for PS2, XBOX and PC.

Yea it looks like a great shooter, I can't wait to play it. Been watching the previews for months now.

I have a demo of the game. It came with an issue of "Electronic gaming monthly". It played very well for a demo, it was smooth and fluid.
looks a lot like Halo but with bigger bad guys. It should be a good game if you like First person shooters.

Sounds like a cross of Half-Life and Resident Evil to me... and shouldn't this be on BTS maybe?

Who are you? Forum police?!!

hehe j/k

But yeah, I suppose. Just figured since it was about Area 51, members who frequent this forum section might be interested. We have threads here about alien movies and such so I figured this wasnt much different.

Ah, I don't mind so much... That's why i put in the wink!

As far as Area 51 games go... I doubt it'll top the Area 51 arcade game. I haven't played that in at least 6 or 7 years.

Not sure but I think the new Area 51 game might be based on the arcade shooter you're talking about. I never played it though so I dont know.

Do you remember if the arcade game was made by Midway?

I might get it just cause I like the X-Files so much. Be a perfect game for David Duchovny to be the lead voice in.

Ok, maybe I'll get it cause I love area 51 stories.

Ok, maybe cause I like shoot em up games when I've had a bad day.

Dmn it, I'm gonna be out 60 bucks.

Ahh, that's the one I was thinking of. So then this must be an all new title.

Thanks crisko.

This game is infact the sequel or remake for that classic arcade shooter. Looking at the first site that was linked it seems it goes into such topics of Roswell, MJ 12, and the Bermuda Triangle.

I couldn't even beat the demo. That game is probably difficult as hell. Or I probably just didn't put enough time into it. I'd say difficult as hell though.

I doubt they're going to handle the subjects in an original manner, in any case. I could be wrong, however.

I always loved the original Area 51 too, by the way.

being an avid gamer, i must check out this new game. The classic AREA 51 was awesome. All you heard were those deep voiced "ARRHHH" when u popped them. awesome. UFOs and alien-ish type stuff is slowly making its way back to the mainstream.

Maybe a new title but sounds exactly like the same premise as the Atari arcade shooter... There was one at my local movie theatre, so I became quite the expert at the game. Man I loved that shotgun powerup...
