40,000 US Troops serving in Iraq & the "War on Terrorism" may be forced into enlistment until 24 DEC 2031 or 26 years of further service!
Currently 7000+ Troops serving in Iraq have had their Enlistments extended past the Service termination date.

w ww.rollingstone.com
David Qualls, who joined the Arkansas National Guard for a year, is one of 40,000 troops in Iraq who have been informed that their enlistment has been extended until December 24th, 2031. "I've served five months past my one-year obligation," says Qualls, the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit challenging the military with breach of contract. "It's time to let me go back to my life. It's a question of fairness, and not only for myself. This is for the thousands of other people that are involuntarily extended in Iraq. Let us go home."

The Army insists that most "stop-lossed" soldiers will be held on the front lines for no longer than eighteen months. But Jules Lobel, an attorney with the Center for Constitutional Rights who is representing eight National Guardsmen in a lawsuit challenging the extensions, says the 2031 date is being used to strong-arm volunteers into re-enlisting. According to Lobel, the military is telling soldiers, "We're giving you a chance to voluntarily re-enlist -- and if you don't do it, we'll screw you. And the first way we'll screw you is to put you in until 2031."

This looks to be more of an administrative thing than an actual extension on to peoples terms of volunteer enlistment.

I can't imagine that this would fly if it were the way some folks will try to interpret. But I have been wrong in the past. I think we need more facts before we get into the sky is falling.

"I've served five months past my one-year obligation," s

When you sign up for the military, you sign up for an immedaiate obligation. Afterwards, there is a long period of time in which you can be recalled, at any moment, for any length.

It is not 'forced enlistment'. They were not forced to enlist. When they enlisted, they agreed to those terms.

"Buyer Beware" applies to all contractual agreements people, especially those you have with your government.

Read the fine print. And get a lawyer.

Before you sign - or vote, for that matter.

Well, I mean really, what did this guy think, that the army would spend a year training him, spend all that money, and then make him serve for only a year???

What did you think, the army would train you for a year and then let you out in a year

A guy joins and from day one he belongs to the army. If they choose to train him for a year, taht's a year spent. Yes he should get out when he was promised. Just because Bush and the neo cons didn't have a clue as to what it took to wage a war should not be agreen light to reinstall slavery into the armed forces.

Nydgan even my husband disagreed on this one, is not such thing as serving one year, you served you contract years and then you are on call for additional years, even my husband is still under "guarantee" for another 4 years after serving 22 and being out for 6.

But the new patches that the government is adding to the "service contract" after the initial services and extension is something that the government is not telling the soldiers about it.

Most of my husband friends in the services that are already over twenty years are finding hard to get off and retired, most of them are feeling that is force service place upon them.

Recruiters are not meeting the quotas and take 2 years to train an able soldier for combat, and they season soldiers and ready to retired are the ones that are been force into extension.

This is not fear, you served you country and do your duty and is a time when you want to be with your family after over 20 years of services.

I do not call that been a wimp or cry baby I called fair.

Our military is becoming tired and unwilling, is not making a good example to the young that seek to enlist.
