Blackout hits northern Puerto Rico following fire, explosion

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — An explosion and fire at an electric substation threw much of northern Puerto Rico into darkness late Sunday in a setback for the U.S. territory's efforts to fully restore power more than five months after Hurricane Maria started the longest blackout in U.S. history.

The hits just keep on coming.
I wonder at what point will enough be enough and we actually go in and fix the lights and the government there?
We seem to be spending much money and we can't even breakthrough some territories local crime syndicate in order to clean up the island.
What am i missing?
Was there any good reason to remove whitefish from the contracts after the hurricane.
They were gonna get things done so we pulled the contract and let the locals mess things up and now it looks like some form of serious screw up or terrorism.

I really hope that they are documenting the situation. I'm interested in understanding the poor infrastructure of the grid that existed before the storm, the steps that were taken to fix it, and the problems they faced on their road to power recovery. This could be enlightening (ha ha get it) for so many other developing countries or areas facing disasters.

If you actually look closely at what Whitefish were trying to do with that contract, with regards to the specific terms, the pricing, and indeed many other fine details of it, you will get a better understanding of the situation, and why it was absolutely necessary to throw that contract and indeed Whitefish, off the site.

I have looked at the situation and have determined that this was nothing more than a demoncratic hit job.

Yes the prices were high and that is because it cost money to get things done in emergency situations.

Truth is that they would have had the lights on 100% weeks ago at a rate 3x the actual non emergency value.

The real reason this took place the way it did is because the pressure the potus was under at the time.

Thanks alot DEMS for screwing the puerto ricans. TURN THE LIGHTS BACK ON these people have done nothing to you.
