I wasn't beating you up.
Don't you think I haven't sat here and pondered different ways of making it all work? I have, you know. People who discuss communism and socialism
don't understand that, I think.
When you get into the game of world building for whatever reason, you have all kinds of time to attempt to create workable societies with whatever
frameworks you desire. However, when you do start to think about how it would really all go together ... because that's the aim of world building,
after all, creating stories in that world ... the various holes and problems with what you put together start to appear.
For example, there is one series of book I reread from time to time because I do enjoy the depth of the world building where I have pinpointed some of
the main handwaving that had to be done in order to make the world work.
In this world, everyone has casual sex as they choose with whomever they choose, gay or straight, married or not. No one ever gets jealous from this
(that's a sin which suggests it is, at least, possible) and there are no unintended pregnancies and venereal disease appears to be unheard of no
matter where you go.
Do you see the handwaving that had to happen?
1. People really can have no strings attached sex, even in committed relationships, and its exceedingly rare to be jealous
2. You only get pregnant after you pray for children -- yes, really
3. The topic of VD never, ever comes up, so it must not exist
A fun world to visit, but not at all a practical model to try to base anything in reality off of.
