Illegals, an epidemic Disease on America

Contagious diseases are entering the United States because of immigrants, illegal aliens, refugees and travelers, and World Health Organization officials say the worst could be yet to come.
In addition to a list of imported diseases that includes tuberculosis, sickle cell anemia, hepatitis B, measles and the potentially deadly parasitic disease Chagas, officials fear what could happen if the avian flu, which is flourishing among poultry in Southeast Asia, mutates so that it is capable of human-to-human transmission through casual contact.
The bird flu has killed at least eight Asians since early January. Several of those deaths — in Vietnam and Thailand — were believed to have been caused when the virus passed between people who had sustained contact. If the avian flu mutates so that it can be transmitted with only casual contact, WHO authorities predict at least 7 million and as many as 100 million would die in a worldwide pandemic.

Blood supply at risk
"An estimated 15 million South Americans [plus Mexicans and Central Americans] are suffering from Chagas," said Dr. Arthur C. Aufderheide of the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. "I'm amazed" that only five cases have turned up in the U.S. blood supply since 1986.
Federal data suggest that as many as 10 percent of the approximately 1,000 Mexicans who emigrate to the United States daily probably are infected with Chagas, said Dr. Louis V. Kirchhoff, a Chagas specialist and a professor at the University of Iowa's medical school.
Other researchers say immigration is resulting in population shifts that are contributing to a rise in sickle cell anemia.
While many incorrectly believe the disease is a condition that afflicts only blacks or it has been eradicated, one in every 16 Hispanics — the fastest-growing U.S. immigrant group — also carry the genetic trait that can cause the painful and incurable blood disorder.
The number of Hispanic sickle cell cases in the United States has risen rapidly, and one in every 900 Hispanic infants in this country is born with the disease, said Gil Pena, outreach director for the American Sickle Cell Anemia Association, based at the Cleveland Clinic. "

When is this admistration going to get serious about border control. I think some Marines on the border with orders to shoot to kill is a good idea. Especially on the border with that "Infested" country to the north.

i agree with you.........again (i'm scared) i think the avian flu could definitely be the next "GREAT PLAGUE"..............if it mutates enough to a casual contact disease then that will have a huge effect on our populations.........the numbers listed in your post are STAGGERING.........

i wasn't familiar with the CHAGAL..............what is that exactly??? never heard the term.

i think our borders are in dire need of some beefing up of the security.......i saw something on tv about the number of officers that are assigned to border patrol and it was a PALTRY number..............can't recall the exact figures but basically crossing over from mexico..........there were as many ILLEGALS crossing in ONE DAY that we have border officers.

and on the govmts list of things to spend money on.................i'll bet that border security doesn't even rank in the top 200 items.

Protecting your wallets. Well, do you want the cheap labor (and the high cost associated with the taxes that are being used to feed and care for these people), or do you want the businesses that hire them to provide a sufficient wage that they can feed and care for themselves with....along with the higher price of the goods they produce?

As for the disease risk associated with our open border policies, well, about the only way we could protect ourselves from that would be to quarentine everyone entering the country long enough to insure they weren't infected with anything...including americans returning from trips abroad. For some reason, I don't think that would go over too well in the corporate world.

The whole point is that those that arrive "legally" can be tracked if a disease is found, and in fact it does happen. Illegals just "show-up" and used tax dollars then disappear. I think illegal's should be shot on site. That would cut things down a bit. Any employer found "hireing" illegal's should also be shot on site. I think robotic 50 cal's roaming the borders shooting anything that moves is also a good idea too.

But, they won't do that, the businesses like their cheap labor, and the administration in DC likes businesses.....so, well, there probably won't be any shoot on sight orders anytime soon.
As far as the tracking bit goes, hey, I know, lets all wear little tracking devices, that way, once an illegal enters a store, the place of employment, or even their home, they will be detected since they won't have one of these devices issued to them. Then when something breaks out, we know right where the infected has been, who has been around them, what they all bought at the resturant, or store, (or local drug dealer probably), and we will be able to get a handle on it right away!

Back to reality though, I'd be a little worried about those 46 million or so americans out there without health insurance, because I bet there a few of them out there like me.....I carry a signed letter in my pocket just in case....refusing any and all medical care, on the grounds that it is unaffordable to me. My face could look like that picture, and the authorities would never know about it! Since, I wouldn't seek treatment, and definately wouldn't be going out of the house. It wouldn't even be noticed until one of my family contracted the disease, and they went out....so, what can I say......alot of things can be spread around simply because people don't have the means to seek the treatment. By the time the infection would be discovered it would be too late.

Republican to Lead Immigration Revolt Against Bush

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Republican member of the House of Representatives vowed on Wednesday to lead a revolt against President Bush (news - web sites)'s immigration reform proposals and predicted that up to 180 party members would support him.

Bush in an interview with the Washington Times published on Wednesday said he plans to force a debate in Congress this year on his proposal that would allow some illegal immigrants to obtain legal work permits in the United States.

Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo, who heads the House Immigration Reform Caucus, said he was determined to block the legislation. The caucus, which had 71 members in the last Congress, argues for stronger action to stop illegal immigration and a reduction of legal migration.

"Why is this so important to the president?" Tancredo said. "Is it just the corporate interests who benefit from cheap labor? Do they have such a strong grip on our president so that he is actually willing to put our nation at risk, because open borders do put our nation at risk?

Weren't conservatives listening to Bush last term? Did you ignore the first part of the oxymoron compassionate conservative?

The missions not only were outposts of religion, which is an incredibly important part of our country, they were also the outposts of aid and comfort and help, which must always be a part of the fabric of America.

Did you notice that there's no credit for the photo and no explaination of what it is?

The article itself says that diseases are entering from " immigrants, illegal aliens, refugees and travelers." Now, why isn't Michael screaming about those darn American travelers? Has he forgotten all the news stories of two years ago where the Norwalk virus (brought in by our own good Americans) started to infest all the cruise ships? And how about all those good American travelers who come back from abroad with nasty diseases.

"Illegal aliens, refugees, and immigrants" do enter the country every day -- in much SMALLER numbers than do Americans returning from cruises and international travel. If Michael and the Real Conservatives are concerned about this, then they need to stop the BIGGEST problem first.

They need to stop tourists from going abroad.

So where's his cries for that?

The guy in the picture appears to be suffering from cancer. I've seen conditons like this (very rarely, but I've seen them) and they've been in Caucasian farmers here in the United States.

Perhaps we should get rid of those white farmers while we're at it. Ya never know what they're carrying, either.

When I see that photo, I want to help heal that poor unfortunate soul. Wherever he is and wherever he is from. I think part of my instincts to heal are altruistic, and part are selfish: if this condition was contagious, and I do not heal him, wherever he is and wherever he is from, it may destroy me and mine. But I also feel a cumpulsion to reach out and heal just because he is a fellow human. Horacid, I think you suffer from a lack of empathy. Sure a bullet is a cure- until the flies cross your iron border and bite you. Sure you can spray every human, bird and bug out of existance; and then you die from ecocide. If one of us suffers, we all suffer. Stop hating, and do what you can to heal the world. Before it is too late for you, too.
