this is making its way around now. it is a sequel to this, the man from earth.

from 2007

www.imdb.com...

An impromptu goodbye party for Professor John Oldman becomes a mysterious interrogation after the retiring scholar reveals to his colleagues he has a longer and stranger past than they can imagine.

if you have not seen this movie i recommend it. it came out in 07 so if you feel i spoiled it for you sorry.

this move borrows the story of the immortal man, a mr krim rosu(also called krim jacob) from an old romanian legend of the immortal man. a man who has walked the earth for 14,000 years. fantastic sci fi movie.

so now we have the sequel

www.imdb.com...

14,000 year-old "Man from Earth" John Oldman is now comfortably hiding in plain sight as a college professor in Northern California. But his existence comes crashing down when four students discover his deepest secret, putting his life in grave danger and potentially shaking mankind to its very soul

i have not watched this yet but i have high hopes for it.

on a side note, if anyone has any information or links about the legend of krim rosu please pass it my way. i became fascinated with the legend after watching the first movie so i hit the internet and surprisingly there is very little information out there. i am looking for anything available so it is much appreciated if you find something.

what little i could fine

Here's a blog post that is a review of Man from Earth I did a few years ago. It does have some references to other 'Eternal Man" stories:

aconservativelibrarian.blogspot.com...

It's a wall of text at the moment. I will try formatting it so it looks better. Haven't used this for a long time....
OK. It looks a little better now.

I enjoyed the first film slow but thought provoking.
I will keep my eye out for this cheers.
I think I made a thread about the original years ago.

love the man from earth, a unique gem, and a pleasure to have found.

I was on the IMDB forums for it years ago, before they shut the section down and had the pleasure of meeting the son of the man who wrote it.

will definitely have to check this out.

I didn't like the end of this movie.

Leaves the viewer hanging, with lots of unanswered questions.

There was no sense of "completion".

You could see the movie wasn't made by Hollywood.

There's a formula for a Hollywood movie, this film broke the rules.

That's kind of the point. It has no explosions either. That it obviously wasn't done in Hollywood is to its credit.

I agree 100%. I haven't seen this new one but the old one was refreshing in that it was an actual story that drew you in instead of over-the-top unrealistic special effects.

I, too, was fascinated by the first movie and so happy it was truly a scifi thought-provoking movie without a horror element or extreme violence.

Thanks for the info of a second one.

Not really. Walter Jameson was a Roman citizrn before he became immortal, not a 14,000 year old Cro Magnon. Here is a summary from my blogpost cited above that deals with this:

Other ‘immortality’ stories

The idea of an immortal person walking the earth is not new. In fact, there are several references in the Bible to a ‘wandering Jew’ named Cartaphilus. The story is in many forms, but the basic plot is that Cartaphilus offended Jesus when he was carrying the cross. Jesus became angry and said, “Thou shalt tarry until I return.” One of the manifestations of this is in My First Two Thousand Years; the Autobiography of a Wandering Jew by George Sylvester Viereck, published originally in 1928 and still available. A similar story is the Twilight Zone Season One episode, Long Live Walter Jamison, though it is forced to fit into a half-hour. And, of course, we have The Highlander. Jerome Bixby himself wrote the Star Trek episode, Requiem for Methuselah which deals with a man who claims to have been everyone from Alexander the Great to Leonardo da Vinci on earth. The book, Forever, by Pete Hamill, which is actually a history of New York City seen through the lives of an immortal resident. New Amsterdam was a television series that dealt with an immortal New York City cop. Robert A. Heinlein’s Time enough for love is about Lazarus Long, born in 1916 and still going strong in 4200.

It is an interesting premise, but you'd think if there were such a man or a being they would most definitely have a hand in shaping history and possibly want to get off this rock...
