Copy-and-Paste Post / Trimmed Overly Long Quote

So i received my first message, it was about 50 deducted because of a 'copy and paste post'

I posted the link then used the quote button to post one paragraph, but it was edited by a moderator and a note left 'trimmed overly long quote'.

Yes, it was an overly long 1 paragraph i parsed into my quote since the quote is mostly quoting other sources of the info (death tolls, etc).

Anyways, what is the character limit on 3rd party content that can be quoted per post?

Also, how come the warning/penalty assumes one did not include the source under the excuse that the quote was too long any (yet the source was clearly provided from the get go)? I mean to say, why comingle to issues (not citing source altogether vs quote being too long).

Also, MUST the quote be the 'first paragraph' of the article being quoting? Cuz sometimes when I have to quote an article, the main point I wanna share is the last paragraph or last sentence.

I didn't see your post so it's hard to know just how long it was, but either way, the "points" don't mean anything. Almost like Whose Line Is It Anyway. It was part of the ATS Store which isn't used anymore. All the things you used to be able to buy are available to everyone for free now. RATS access, custom titles, background images and colors, ect.

You should quote as little as possible. It can be any part of the article, and it is indeed best to quote to make your point, but briefly.
2-3 short paragraphs.

Oh, what a relief, I was worried I didnt have enough 'points' yet to cover this infraction thus would already be booted.

Sheesh, what a way it would have been to start off the year with a real BANG. Perhaps first message warning, 2nd message will be an ultimatum. Time shall tale!

I agree. Long quotes are disruptive. I get that. But the mod that warned him should have just messaged him after removing the quote. The warning was a bit excessive for a new member, IMO.

That is what the message about copy/pasting is for.
They are not really "warnings" as we have when we remove posts.

And, often staff leave messages in the edited posts, I know I usually do.

Ah. Well, maybe it's just more of how the automatic U2U is written then. But I guess that's more of a problem for the admins. I just want new members to feel welcome. I don't mean to stick my beak in.

While we are on about overly long quotes. Can anybody else who reads this please stop quoting entire OPS that are super massive for a simple one or two line response? Just hit the reply button people, we don't need to read 8 paragraphs all over again, fifteen times int he same thread.
