I raise Birmingham roller pigeons.

Nothing as beautiful as letting these little dragons fly.

I've been checking out other vids to see/compare how my kits are doing.

Wooohoo - look and see what's the added attraction in this vid.

And notice the dramatic upward flight of this thing! Starts around .33.

A bird further away in the background???

I have never seen or heard of Birmingham Roller, before... and would've assumed it a colloquial term for some lewd act.

So thank you! How in the heck did that ...er , flight method, come about? Why would they do that and is it learned or hereditary?

As far as the white speck... could it be pigeon poop?

They certainly let their freak flag fly! Bravo, Silo. No Habla UFO here though.

Ok, that is so cool, and looks like a BLAST! Are they having fun? I SO hope that they are just having fun, and that it's not some bird thing this variety of pigeon has to do for survival or something. I'm gonna believe that they're having a blast.

only time ive ever seen a bird do that was my aunts indoor parrot. i didnt think birds ever learned to do flips in the wild. it seems like they are really adverse to rolling over a certain amount and even hawks and falcons going after squirrels rarely roll completely upside down when i watch them. really cool video and looks like the birds are having a blast.

My first thought ... just a feather. The bird is tumbling after all and they appear to be flying into the wind.

The tumbling pidgeons are cool and I wondered too if it was a unnatural behavior. But since the name of the breed is Birmingham roller, well guess not.

You're assuming the camera wasn't moving to follow the birds.

I think the camera could have been panning downward slightly to follow the birds, which made the thing in the far background (which could have been a number of mundane terrestrial objects, such as a plane) only appear to be changing its trajectory upward.

Same thing for the object at :55. The apparent motion of the object in the background could be due to the motion of the camera as it follows the birds.

As for these alien birds looks like all the UFO guys were wrong not reptiles after all .

People still keep pigeons?

It's a dying hobby from what I gather, I used to live close to a famous keeper. Tumblers are an awesome sight.

For people wondering about this particular type of pigeon, they've been bred for this ability for centuries and been bred all around the world.

I'm guessing from our perspective they are show birds.

Once a common sight here in the UK, I do miss seeing them
