The US basically funds the UN. The UN is a joke. It's better if the US were to withdraw all funding and support to the UN.

The US spends about 8 billion a year Luther UN and its agencies. It is silly since members can pay the minimum roughly 60000 dollars and get full membership.

The amount a country pays is related to it's ability to pay. They use the GNI of a country to agree that.
The security council has five permanent members, US is one of them, they alone determine the defence budget, every two years.
Other budgets are agreed by all every two-years.
There are many other funding processes, mostly voluntary.
Any UN housekeeping would be a general agreement, while countries own section housekeeping improvements would be something internal.

The US used to pay 25% in 2000 it was reduced to 22% that seems to be the same now, so any new changes should be reflected in the next budget.

The United States will not withdraw from the UN anytime soon. It makes much too good a soapbox to push whatever agenda needs pushing internationally, not to mention the Security Council seat, and veto power.

What should be done is a bit of house cleaning so far as which nations sit on which council. Saudi Arabia sitting on a Human Rights council as a glaring example...there are others.

It's items like the above that have people wondering what the point of it all is.

Non-binding "condemnation" votes on issues of little importance outside of the two nations involved--the movement of an embassy isn't what the UN should be worried about. On going crisis in, say, the Sudan, or disasters elsewhere is what the UN should be focusing on. These, most or, at least, many in the US would have no issue with supporting.

This was another actual genius attack from Trump

He's going after the globalists in the UN, and seeing exactly who is in bed with Islam at the same time

Parallel to that he's actually infuriating the Muslim world

If he can't get the floodgates close on immigration the globalists will keep killing our culture and identity across the western world

Then he'll start a war with Islam and it start over Jerusalem now for sure

Win win well done trump

Well, it's a nice start, anyway! As far as I am concerned, we could drop out of that organization, and toss them out of ourr country, while we are at it.

A $285 million reduction to the overall United Nations budget is a drop in the bucket. That is still better than shelling out more tax dollars, but it's still a joke.

2016-2017 United Nations Overall Budget: $13,670,000,000
2018-2019 Negotiated Budget: $13,385,000,000
United States Contribution 2016-2017: $3,007,400,000
United States Contribution 2018-2019: $2,944,700,000
Number of United States Households (2016): 125,820,000
Savings Per Household: About 25 cents a year.

It's a joke, but the kind that leaves a sour taste in your mouth.

Didn't several U.N. member countries vote last week to denounce the U.S.A.'s decision to move OUR Israeli embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem? If Israel gives us permission to move our own embassy from one city to another, it's no other country's concern. Are those nations arrogant to the point where they think they can influence how we move our embassies? Maybe the United States really should LEAVE/QUIT the United Nations all-together, as some Congressmen have proposed.

All but a half dozen nations condemned the United States for Trump's decision. In effect, it was a declaration that the two state solution was off the table, and that the peace process is over. Guatemala has boldly followed Trump's lead and will be moving its embassy to Jerusalem too.

Now begins the process of having State and the intelligence agencies draw up their list of requirements for the new embassy. Higher security, better information infrastructure. It will probably take them two years to produce the specs, at which point the bidding will open for potential contractors. They will be ready to begin construction about a year into the next president's administration... if s/he does not decide to restore the status quo ante.

The whole embassy debacle has provided Trump with an excuse to cut funding to an organization that was founded to resolve international conflicts peacefully, enforce international legal standards and human rights, and provide healthcare and other aid to developing nations. There would have been a more graceful way to do this than to say, in effect, "you were mean to me so I'm taking my ball and going home."

Yes other countries pay a higher percentage of their GDP.

But the reality isn't the percentage - it's the actual payment amount.
The US is the highest payer at the end of the day.

We have plenty of needs right here that could use that money HERE. Why should we issue a blank check for a group of people that hate the US to use our money against us?

yes we did it as a reprisal. because all we did was something we the people decided in 94 through our congress but the prior three limp backed potusi were to saudi whipped to acknowledge . trump looked at situation ,and he looked at what american people decided we should after 37 years move our embassy to current capitol. this 2 state plan was never going to happen .
plo/ leaders of Palestine will never agree to a lasting peace . the un decided to ridicule the us and trump publicaly on a moot point Israel has been running Jerusalem as their capitol since 1980. we just reminded them we are your main revenue source and they want to keep gravy flowing shut it.

yes we did it as a reprisal.

Who's "We"? The Us is run by adult children. They use coercion thru demands, ultimatums, threats and intimidation.

They leverage sanctions on anyone that doesn't go along with their global dominance agenda.

I could really care less what the US thinks.

Wen the UN general assembly votes 128 to 9 , the corruption is clearly in the minority.
