Police are responding reports of an explosion near New York City’s Port Authority during Monday morning’s rush hour.
NYPD confirmed to Fox News they are investigating reports of an explosion.
“Police activity” was reported near West 42nd Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues, NYC Office of Emergency Management tweeted. Commuters are advised to expect delays.
MANHATTAN — There has been “some type of explosion” in a Manhattan subway, according to police. There are so far no reports of injuries.
A man with a “possible second device” has been detained in the subway tunnel, sources said. He was described him as “having wires coming out of him.” Source

Electrical transformers sometimes explode. In the past, they have caused manhole covers to go flying into the air. There's at least one video of it happening on YouTube if you care to go look for it.
