Sure. Just be careful about the animals you choose to live with.

He lived among grizzly bears of Katmai National Park in Alaska for 13 summers. At the end of his 13th summer in the park, in 2003, he and his girlfriend Amie Huguenard were killed by a 28-year-old brown bear, whose stomach was later found to contain human remains and clothing.[1]

You neglected to remember that man is a species of animal called a Great Ape.
So we do live among animals of our own species, and it's not always that peacefull.

No i didn't. We as a race need to change. Apes don't. I have a question for you, higher sentience man or ape? And man want to venture out in order to discover other life. They have no idea of what "life" exists on their own planet. Not always peaceful and you wonder why you've never made contact with other life. There is no dualistic conflict between Great Apes and higher sentience, it's a continuum.
You could argue that what we consider evidence of higher sentience is just egoistic hubris.
