I guess. I shouldn't expect more but I certainly hope for better. Like. I said, I'm just a naive idealist and would like to see better from our politicians when they claim some faux moral high ground and vote to criminalize behavior they are actively engaging in.

Yeah... Moore is a real gem of a human being isn't he? I'm not sure what's worse, that he's a borderline sociopath with a preoccupation with young girls or that people in Congress still support his bid for a Senate seat because they need his vote for the tax bill they're trying to push through and are willing to ignore his attempts to have inappropriate relationships with underage girls in order to have their way.

Its not really that much of a shocker though, is it? I mean, the tax plan as it stands will only serve to deepen the ridiculous divide between those who actually work for their money, and the filthy rich who like people to think they do, so they are going to need all the help they can get to pass that legislation.

From their perspective, any price is worth paying to get their way, because they are scum.

No, I wasn't particularly surprised by that. The U.S. has the appearance of being so insanely partisan right now that it appears that the centerists have become extinct. It's not really the case,it's more a matter of an incredibly vocal minority on both sides of the aisle. The citizenry is heavily divided, but those in government... Not so much in practice.

It's the natural and inevitable outcome of enduring a political duopoly in our federal government for the last 240 years, which in reality is a defacto single party and a party whose only real allegiance is to the business and lobbying interests who put money in their pockets. Their constituents are an inconvenient obstacle because they have to occasionally do a song and dance to maintain the facade.

Unfortunately, the way things are going the last 9 years and at the rate it has increased the past year, especially so since Trump won the Republican nomination, the unfettered masses are truly in the midst of the partisan divide that our representatives present themselves as being in. That level of partisanship has emboldened the extremes on both sides and frighteningly so.

Between the proud nationalists (née racists emboldened by trumps campaign platform and promises of returning America to some fictitious and idealized version of the 50's) echoing 1930's Europe on the far right end of the spectrum and the extreme far left who has become increasingly violent things are only going to get worse before they get better.

And say you point out with the example of the new tax plan on the table currently, that divide will only widen just as the disparity in wealth/income will as the middle class ceases to be as power and money are consolidated by the upper 10th percentile and the lower class slips farther below the poverty line.

If people actually put down their smart phones, unplugged from the internet and begin to stand up for themselves against a government out of control and no longer for the people by the people... things could begin to unravel in ways unseen since the last quarter of the 18th century. I'm really bummed out that I've got kids that have to grow up in this type of political climate and I'm wishing. I had got that vasectomy a little sooner. I jest mostly because these kids are what keep me going everyday and I wouldn't trade them for anything. I'm just a little frightened of the world I brought them into and frightened about the unnown variables that will come into play the next few years.

Maybe I should stop paying so much attention to politics and stick to science and playing my bass. The politics of Anthropology are nowhere near as stressful as watching that orange sack of excrement tweet his inane babbling day in and day out or pull stunts like using a ceremony to honor 90 year old Native Americans for their vital assistance in ending Japanese domination of the Pacific in WW2 to mock a senator while standing beneath a portrait of Andrew Jackson whose biggest accomplishment prior to becoming President was nearly exterminating the Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, Chickasaw and Choctaw on the Trail of Tears. It takes a special kind of moron to utilize that type of setting to honor a couple of Native Americans with an award.

I think theres something to be said for taking a break from it all once in a while. If its an option you can consider, its probably one worth taking.

As for that ceremony for the code talkers... That was disgusting, just utterly disgusting. You could tell those gentlemen were half thinking that the event was some kind of sick joke, the looks on their faces told a story that the White House press team would rather had not been recorded.

I would imagine that those fellows are too proud to make much of it, but that whole event seems like it was set up to cause insult in the most unsubtle way that a public figure could get away with.

I was going to add some typically dull comments and then remembered an old song and your interest in obscure music. It's an old tune by Lard (related to Jello Biafra and Dead Kennedys) singing about hypocritical TV evangelists. Same BS as any 'family values' politician claiming to be the morality police.

Great song and totally apropos for this thread! I loved Lard. It's basically the late 80's lineup of Ministry minus Chris Connelly w/ Jello singing instead of Chris.

It's totally off topic but have you ever heard Pailhead? Like Lard, it's comprised of the core members of Ministry with Al playing guitar, Paul in Bass and William Rieflin on drums with Ian MacKaye from Minor Threat and Fugazi fronting the band. It's a really interesting lineup considering that when they got together I work on this in London, Al Jourgenson was an extremely prolific drug addict and Ian was the mover and shaker behind two of the biggest straight edge bands in music history.

I'll download some Pailhead and give it a listen. The first track started to sound really good once it'd had warmed up. Could be a weekend splurge.

Dirty Three have been getting the airplay lately. I only bumped into them this year and they stopped making records a few years ago. It's cool having a back catalogue to hunt down and sad knowing there's no more.
