I have just spent a good few hours tinkering with my laptop in the office as the internet kept lagging or even cutting out. Played with all sorts of stuff, virus checking registry ect and got nowhere.

I went downstairs and noticed that while the girls were tidying up they had moved the wifi box about 6 inches or so and it was at a slight angle.

I popped it back in its origional place and POW! back up to full speed!

I bet you were not expecting such a mundane story were you?

Just me?

Great story! Imagine building a building, and being off 1 inch on the foundation, get to the 2nd or 3rd floor, and you are now 6 inches off lol

Wi fi signal spreads out horizontally instead of vertically so if it has been put at an angle, feasibly it could have been leaving you in a blind spot, especially with you being upstairs.

It's why you have worse signal directly above your router on the floor above say than if you were 2 rooms away laterally.

I remember a story from years ago about a guy who had a house built and the builders put it about 6 inches to far forward and it was too close to the road and had to be knocked down and started again to comply with building regs.

Maybe it is more important than we men are often told...

OP to your title. Dare I say, That's what she said...LOL....In my case it would be he, though.

Yes indeed the Wifi router needs to be in a "sweet spot" to insure a better range. If you hardwire your PC it will be much faster than using Wifi. My XBOXONE is hardwired and gets 100mps, easy. My laptop when not hardwired gets about half that.

Yeah it is a fair way away and needs to be in that sweet spot but I never realised it was so close lol.

It is on a piano and I wondered if all the metal strings could have an effect as well?

My ex said the same thing.

I'm sad now.

Depending on your router you can swap out modded bios that will allow you better signal. You can also make parabolic directional antennas that can direct signal a specific way. I did that and it boosted the wifi enough to be used in the far part of our yard. I was surprised how easy of a hack the parabolic was. Litterally an old beer can.

Women already know how much difference a few inches make.

I'm gonna have to look up the parabolic directional antennas you mentioned. We get terrible WiFi signal upstairs. My kids pile on the stairs at night to use their tablets before bedtime.

Just get a repeater. That problem solved
In relation to the thread titile , see a specialist . Over time that problem is only going to get worse...
