Hi, about a half hour ago or so, I posted my feelings on a news story I had recently heard earlier this morning. It was in reference to a news story about a couple who had thrown a baby out of a car in Florida.

I am fairly new to these forums, I joined 1/22/2005.

I guess it just never really occurred to me to post on BTS. I looked at it when I first joined, but it didn't seem as interesting as ATS. So, I've never really been back there much more since.

Also, as ATS has a catagory for "Other Current News", I assumed that that was where I would place such a post. I also did have a news article to back it up.

But, after just a few minutes, I had a reply from a Moderator, Kingfisher? I think. Put a link to where someone else had posted a thread about the same story on BTS. Said to continue the discussion there, then closed the thread. I don't know if he thought that I had stolen the story from the person on BTS - Which I Certainly Did Not! Nor would I do that if I had the chance, or even knew the post was there!

Or, is there some rule I was missing that says that certain things belong on BTS, not on ATS?

Please let me know, so that I don't make the same mistake again. I really like it here, and don't want to be inadvertently doing something wrong.

That was probably KingLizard and yes, you are correct. You did post it in the right place (Other Current News), but on BTS we also have US News Discussion and there happened to be a thread there before yours.

We try as best we can to keep the threads to a minimum so that people can find things and comment on them easier.

All in all, you did nothing wrong. The subject could have been in either place...there just happened to be one there and we just want to keep things simple.

Newborn baby survives being thrown from car!

Nobody thought you stole anything. It happens all the time. Many times a Search can find things so that you don't post something already there. Buy hey, we've all done it.

I don't think you've got anything to worry about, I think it's just a simple matter of you having a duplicate post of a subject someone had already posted about.

Ordinarily a subject like that would be in Other Current Events, but because ATS is more about the conspiracy slant some may feel the need to post it on BTS if it's not conspiracy related. I think your best bet is to use the search function at the top or to read BTS from time to time.

Sorry for the confusion, I will try to explain further. The Other Current Events forum is intended for "World Events Of Major Importance". Before you authored your thread I had moved an identical thread out of the same forum (Other Current Events) to the US News Discussion forum on BTS because I felt it didn't meet the requirements of the original forum on ATS. I closed your thread because we had an ongoing discussion on that story already. Plus it wouldn't be fair if I moved one thread to BTS only to allow another person to start an identical thread in the same ATS forum minutes later.

This thread explains how we determine what forum is most appropriate for a given topic or report when it comes to news. I hope this helps you understand why your thread was closed.

yeah dont worry about it, most of us here have had their postes, locked, deleted, moved to other forums and stuff like that. Its normal here cuz there are alot topics and we dont have to have douple posts because its not efficient. All in all dont sweat it, and if you want to find out how the site works, just a look here, www.abovetopsecret.com... , this sould help make sense of this crazy site. And BTW welcome to ATS, alwasy good to see a new member

Thank you. And the same to the rest who have replied so far.

It's so nice to have understanding people to communicate with.

CyberKat,

Yes, everyone is going to spout off about. You should use search first. Let me tell you about a search issue I had just the other day.

I was looking around the site and I came across this post.

Future USA Map?

I didn't post in it I just looked at the posts. Anyhow the next day I was talking about one of the maps in the posts with a guy at work and wanted to show it but I couldn't remember the post. Since I never posted in it It wasn't in MyATS. So I used Search. I put in Map + Future + USA. The exact words that are in the title and body of the post, just not the exact order. But as you can see it didn't find it.

In many cases for search to work I have noticed you need to be VERY VERY VERY Specific. And it is VERY VERY VERY Possible that even if you are that specific you will still not find anything in your search.

Now I will admit that I was able to find it later by changing the date to a week instead of the default last 3 months. But the fact of the mater is. Three days ago is still in the last three months.

Don't get me wrong I'm not bashing you or the Mods. I'm just letting ya'll know that even if you did Search you may have not found anything anyhow, and would still have had your post moved. Good Luck.

Phae

BTS is highly underrated. I wish people would post more on there. Especially the entertainment and media boards.
Deny boredom

I've had threads of my own shifted around and such. Way I see it doing things this way makes things organized and relevant. Also more people will see what you have to say.

Many do seem to treat BTS as the red headed stepchild of the board but it is a place where you can be sillier. That said, the criteria that mods use when moving a thread is most subjective. I would say a baby out a window is more ats than the low pants thread but we all get bumped down at one time or another.
